Proton Motorsports releases development teaser of its Iriz R3 touring car
Kuala Lumpur: Few weeks ago we noticed a picture posted on Instagram by Proton R3 boss Tengky Djan Ley (@tengkudjanley) portraying a bodyshell of the latest Iriz R3. Many speculations were made about the image as it appeared that the car features a full rare-spec roll cage, making it a mysterious racing car in construction.
Well, this air of dubiety is cleared off as yesterday Proton Motorsports revealed three more images of the under construction touring car. It is said that the team is all geared up to push this car into the Round 4 of Malaysian Championship Series (earlier known as Malaysian Super Series) going to happen around August 28 to 30.
The development of the Proton Iriz R3 touring car hints to be progressing at a fast pace. Many changes can be observed in this teaser with the addition of an all new race-spec 1.6 litre naturally-aspirated Campro IAFM engine, a rugged dashboard and a newly Forged Racing radiator. Recaro racing seat coupled with a Tonnka floor-mounted three-pedal box and Sparco removable steering wheel are familiar to the front looks of Iriz R3. These changes make it certain that the touring car is all set to hit tracks in the coming championship.
Iriz touring car is a specifically built vehicle from the house of Proton Motorsports featuring a 1,600 cc engine as per the Malaysian Touring Car specifications. It is claimed by the company that this mid-engine touring car can whisk out a 190 hp without turbo coupled with a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission to the front wheels. Another treat to consider it a touring car is the presence of a unique six-point roll cage (as per regulations), Alcon disc brakes and Öhlins adjustable suspension. Well, this teaser surely rejuvenated the curious racing souls eagerly waiting to see, what this car actually looks like.
