Proton sold 14k units in Feb 2023; archives 52% growth

KUALA LUMPUR: 2023 is turning out to be great for Proton with the national automaker selling 14,033 units last month. This translates into a 52% hike compared to the same period last year. Great, isn’t it?

    As for the overall market growth, the country’s car sales continued to show a surge for two straight months with an estimated total industry volume of 62,300 units.

    Proton Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Roslan Abdullah said, “Proton’s strong start to the year reflects the popularity of our current model offerings. Just like our competitors, a lot of volumes is being driven by fulfillment of tax-exempt bookings, but our new booking numbers remain healthy, so we are hopeful of continuing our sales growth trajectory for the rest of the year.”

    He adds, “Over the next few months, Proton will also be making several announcements to shape the company’s direction for 2023 and beyond. This will be a busy year as we establish our presence in new segments, enter the new energy vehicle (NEV) market, and build our EV credentials when sales of the smart #1 begin.”

    Proton model-wise sales in Feb 2023 -

    • Proton Saga came out to be the best-selling model with 6,345 units sold
    • Following it was the X50, Persona, and the X70 with 3,247, 2,323, and 981 units
    • The small Iriz and Exora sales were limited to 811 and 336 units
      As for segment toppers, Proton had three, the Persona, X50, and Exora

    Proton model-wise year-to-sales -

    • In total Proton sold 25,174 cars in total in the first two months of 2023
    • Proton Saga lead the company’s sales by 11,133 units
    • Following the Saga are the X50, the Persona, the X70, the Iriz, and the Exora with 6,239, 4,352, 1,914, 1,408, and 668 units sold

    Overall, Proton Malaysia has a strong foothold in the market and hopes it will continue to do so in the future.
