Proton X70 is becoming a favourite, over 15,000 SUVs booked

KUALA LUMPUR: The Proton X70 has been making quite a buzz since it was introduced for the first time. The launch of the SUV was one of the most anticipated events in the country, and boy did the X70 impress! The SUV developed in conjunction with the Chinese auto giant Geely is becoming people’s favourite sooner than expected. In a matter of just over a month, 2,000 units of the X70 have already been delivered to the customer since its launch on December 12, 2018.

What’s more? More than 15,000 bookings for the X70 have already been received by the in-house automaker. Speaking of the positive response the SUV has got, Datuk Radzaif Mohamed, the Proton deputy CEO said, “Proton is very thankful for the support Malaysians have shown for the X70 and we are repaying their faith by trying to deliver units as quickly as we can. This is the start the company was looking for and we hope to keep the momentum going for our other activities throughout the year”.

Starting at a generous price of RM 99,800, the feature-laden X70 comes in four different variants, namely STANDARD 2WD, EXECUTIVE 2WD, EXECUTIVE AWD, and PREMIUM 2WD. While the SUV is being imported as a CBU (complete build-up unit) from China, the local assembly of the X70 should begin soon once the expansion works at the Tanjung Malim site are finished. Proton has invested RM 1.2 billion to upgrade the Tanjung Malim plant.

For the unknowns, the Proton X70 is powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine that can generate up to 184 PS of power at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 285 Nm between 1,700 - 4,400 rpm. The power generated is then delivered to the wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. While 2WD is standard across the range, the Executive variant comes equipped with an Intelligent AWD.
