Proton X70 is the 2019 MSF season’s official car

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton X70, one of the most popular SUVs in Malaysia, has been announced to be used as the medical, official, and safety car for the 2019 MSF (Malaysia Speed Festival). The first round of the festival started on 15th March and concluded on 17th March. It was the Sepang International Circuit, where the event was organised along with the Asia GT Festival. The Saga Cup was the main highlight of the event, as Tun Dr Mahathir flagged off the racing version of the first Proton car, which he uncovered 35 years ago. He is also known to launch the circuit itself back in 1998.

Tun Dr Mahathir also took a ride around the circuit in the NiO EP9, which is an exceptional electric hypercar. Each of the wheels of the NiO EP9’s is supplemented by an electric motor, which produces a maximum power of 335.25 hp. All the four motors make a total of 1,341 hp power. It also led the GT4, GTC, and GT3 in a parade lap along with the racing cars of the Saga Cup.

Around 13 racing categories were included, and four races were organised under the MSF umbrella. The open-class Masters Unlimited category (a part of the event) included Street 2000, Street 200, and Super Street Races. Furthermore, the Asia GT Festival featured the China GT Championship series with two races conducted per day. Race 1 was for the GT4 category whereas the Race 2 was for the faster GTC and GT3 category. The grandstand tickets were sold at a base price of RM 20, while to get the MSF paddock, tickets were sold for RM 35.
