Save the date: MG4 and MG ZS EVs launching on March 27 in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: MG is set to re-enter the Malaysian market with the launch of two electric cars - the MG4 and ZS. Previewed last month, this electrifying duo will officially hit the local shores on March 27, 2024.

As per the brand’s official social media handle, SAIC Motor Malaysia, the official caretaker of the brand, will launch the MG4 and MG ZS EVs on March 27 at 10:30 AM on MG Motor Malaysia's Facebook page.

Notably, MG made a comeback to Malaysia as an EV-only brand, marking a big step towards eco-friendly transportation in Malaysia. 

Let’s know the key specifications of the upcoming MG EVs -

MG4

MG Motor Malaysia offers the MG4 in four trims - Standard, Lux, Lux Extended, and XPOWER, estimatedly priced between RM 104,000 and RM 159,000. 

The base-spec version is powered by a 170 PS/250 Nm rear motor paired with a 51 kWh LFP battery, providing a WLTP-claimed range of 350 km. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.5 seconds catering to everyday driving scenarios.

However, for those seeking enhanced power and capability, the Lux variant takes things up a notch with a 203 PS/250 Nm motor and a larger 64 kWh NMC battery. This configuration not only extends the range to 435 km but also maintains a quick acceleration of 0-100 kmph in 7.7 seconds. 

Going further, the Lux Extended Range model comes equipped with a more potent 245 PS/350 Nm motor and a battery optimised for extended range offering an impressive 520 km of range. It clocks the century sprint in just 6.1 seconds making it an ideal choice for longer journeys and adventurous road trips. 

The range-topping XPOWER is a high-performance variant of the electric hatchback that exclusively comes equipped with a dual motor setup generating 435 hp and 600 Nm and a smart all-wheel-drive system. It also features a launch control system, which promises an enhanced sporty driving experience and delivers acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds. 

The MG4 XPOWER also excels in braking performance, stopping from 100 to 0 kmph in just 33.9 metres, thanks to its upgraded wheels, brake discs, and callipers. The EV comes mated to a 64 kWh battery letting it cruise up to 385 km on a single charge. 

MG ZS EV

MG Motor Malaysia offers the MG ZS EV in a sole Luxury variant which carries an estimated price tag of RM 129,000. It comes powered by a front-mounted electric motor dishing out a maximum power of 176 PS and a peak torque of 280 Nm. It runs from zero to 100 kmph in 8 seconds.
