Toyota Rush - Variants explained

Toyota Rush - Variants explained
Contents

Toyota knows how to keep things competitive and other companies on their toes. Its Rush is doing exactly that in Malaysia’s 7-seater MPV segment. Going through the Toyota Rush specs sheet, we were quite impressed. In its latest iteration, it has some interesting features which help it to stand amongst the bests in the segment.

Measuring 4435 mm long, 1695 mm wide, and 1705 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2685 mm, the Rush is indeed a big vehicle. No wonder it has proper seating for 7 people with a generous amount of space for everyone. It draws power from a 1.5-litre petrol engine which is mated to a 4-speed automatic gearbox. There are only two variants of Toyota Rush - 1.5 G and 1.5 S - available here in Malaysia and they aren’t very different from each other. In this story, we are going to get you acquainted with both of them.

Toyota Rush 1.5G

The base variant Rush 1.5G retails at RM 93,000. It is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder, dual VVT-i, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine which has been tuned churn out a max power of 105 PS at 6000 rpm. The peak torque of 136 Nm generated by this engine kicks in at 4200 rpm. As we already mentioned, this engine comes mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission only, no manual transmission is available.

What are the exterior features available in the Rush 1.5 G?

Ans. On the outside, the Rush 1.5G gets full-LED headlights that look very sporty, especially when you combine them with the fantastic front grille. Down below we have got fog lamps in a sporty front bumper. Moving to the side, we have power-adjustable and retractable outside rearview mirrors with integrated LED turn signals. We also like the 17-in alloy wheels.

Some of the other interesting exterior features that you will find in the Rush 1.5 G are-

  • LED rear combination taillights
  • LED high mount stop lamp
  • Rear spoiler
  • Roof rails
  • Shark fin antenna
  • Rear wiper and defogger

How is the Rush 1.5 G from the inside?

Ans. We would say that Toyota has improved the interior of the Rush in its latest model. The fit, finish, and quality of materials is so much better than before. Toyota has also paid attention to driver comfort. The driver’s seat is 6-way manually adjustable. Talking about the seats, the 2nd-row can be folded in 60:40 fashion, slid, and reclined, whereas the 3rd-row can be folded down in 50:50 manner.

Following are some other key interior features of Toyota Rush 1.5G-

  • Smart entry and start system
  • 13 cup holders
  • Automatic AC with rear blower
  • 6.8-in display with USB, AUX, Bluetooth, USB mirroring
  • 6 speakers
  • 2 USB charging ports
  • Digital video recorder
  • Panoramic view monitor

What are the key safety features?

Ans. Since it is a Toyota, safety is one of the top priorities. It has a perfect 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating. Some of its key safety features are-

  • 6 SRS airbags (driver, front passenger, side and curtain)
  • ABS with EBD
  • Brake assist
  • Emergency stop signal
  • Vehicle stability control
  • Traction control
  • Hill-start assist control
  • Blind-spot monitor
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Front and rear parking sensors

Toyota Rush 1.5S

Now, let’s talk about the range-topping 1.5S variant of the Rush. It is RM 4,000 more expensive than the 1.5G variant. If you are wondering what’s worth of the extra money? We will tell you.

Following are the added features that the 1.5 S comes with-

  • Automatic LED headlamps
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel with controls for audio as well as telephone
  • Leather seats
  • Pre-collision system that includes pre-collision warning, pre-collision braking
  • Front departure alert
  • Pedal misoperation control

As you can see, the biggest difference between Rush 1.5G and Rush 1.5S is the inclusion of a bunch of active safety features (Pre-collision system with a pre-collision warning and pre-collision braking, front departure alert, Pedal misoperation control) in the latter. And you can’t really put a price on your safety, so spend the extra 4,000 ringgits and get the Rush 1.5 S.
