Toyota unveils the one-off Yaris Janna Nick custom edition

KUALA LUMPUR: Janna Nick is a name that most Malaysians will recognise without much difficulty. She’s not only a famous actress and singer but also is the newly-appointed brand ambassador for the 2019 Toyota Yaris. In her recognition, the Japanese carmaker has unveiled a one-off custom edition of the Yaris, specially tailored for the famed celebrity. Christened as the “Janna Nick edition”, the car is based on the top-trim variant of the new 2019 Yaris hatchback. Of course, to help make it more special, Toyota Malaysia has gone ahead and injected it with some added panache.

The most apparent distinguishing aspect between a standard Yaris and the Janna Nick edition is its custom exterior touches. Much of the front half of the hatchback wears the eye-catching Citrus Mica paint scheme. However, the rest of the body is coated in multiple shades and hues of red, paired together with some groovy matte black treatment as well. To further emphasise its exclusivity, the lower portion of the front doors get “JN” lettering in large fonts and Jana Nick’s signature. Sticking to the side profile, another detail that will catch your gaze would be its custom TRD-spec 17-inch alloy wheels. These all-black, fancy rims are shod with special 205-section Toyo T1R tyres – neither of which is available at any Toyota showrooms in the country.

Based on the full-option 1.5 G trim of the new Yaris, the Janna Nick edition also comes equipped with a comprehensive aero kit. This adds all-around side skirts, sportier-looking front & rear bumpers, and the uniquely-styled rear roof spoiler. Unlike with the wheels and tyres, though, the aero kit is available as optional equipment even on the regular Toyota Yaris.

Otherwise, mechanically, the Janna Nick edition comes with the same 1.5-litre four-popper that produces 105 hp and 140 Nm of torque, thus there are no differences in its performance. There are also no significant changes to be found in the cabin, with all the features and safety kit akin to the ones you’d find in any other 1.5 G trim of the Yaris. This includes the projector headlights, all-around disc brakes, a 6.8-inch touch-infotainment display, automatic climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, seven airbags, blind-spot monitoring, and electronic stability control, among others.
