Updated Toyota Rush to be launched in Malaysia on October 18

KUALA LUMPUR: It is coming! Within a year of launching the Toyota Rush in Malaysia, the company is now ready to bring in the updated version. The new Toyota Rush will be in a Toyota showroom near you on October 18. Prospective customers can book the vehicle or show their interest by visiting Toyota’s website.

Toyota has managed to keep the styling of the SUV fresh. There are new graphics, the sleeker headlights hint at the Fortuner’s design, and overall aggressive haunches. The cabin story is no different. All-LED headlights, DRLs as well as tail lights are now part of the mix. This is set to broaden the appeal of the new Toyota Rush.

If you check the updated Toyota Rush specifications, there is the two-tone dashboard and Toyota says that it is using soft-touch materials as well. Automatic climate control, 7-inch touchscreen system, DVD infotainment system as well as USB ports for all three rows. The upholstery is also new and there is now a clear distinction between the Rush and the Avanza.

Not only this, the safety kit too has improved by leaps and bounds. There are now six airbags, vehicle stability control, hill assist, and seat belt indicators for the front two seats. It is clear that the updated Rush will also have a better crash test rating.

There is no change to the 1.5-litre petrol engine. This engine still makes 104 PS of power and 136 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. There is also a 5-speed manual available. Power is transferred to the road through the rear wheels. There is no AWD offered. In our opinion, Toyota should have updated this motor as it is not really the best option for this 1.4-tonne vehicle. With a full load, the outgoing Rush feels a tad underpowered. Now with the added kit, it will seem more so.

Expect a price rise. Perhaps by a few 1,000 Ringgits. The variant line up will remain the same. Expect a mix of new exterior paint schemes though.
