2019 Camry joins Toyota’s five-star ASEAN NCAP rated car list

KUALA LUMPUR: The ASEAN NCAP has officially revealed the 2019 Toyota Camry’s test results, besides the launch of its new labelling system. It is the Camry XV70 model which was rated a full five-star rating as it scored 91.47% in the safety test. The all-new Toyota Camry is now one of the safest cars in this segment.

Toyota has a host of cars that were given the five-star safety rating. Included in the list are Rush, Fortuner, and Vios, and now the 2019 Camry has joined the group too.

The all-new Toyota Camry scored 15.31 out of 16 points in the frontal crash test (64 km/h). This assures that the car will provide excellent protection for the occupants’ chest, neck, thighs, and head. Also, the protection for shins is good enough.

Moreover, in the side impact test, the 2019 Camry got a perfect score of 16 out of 16, which is a rare feat in today's automobile industry. The testers noticed that the head, neck, and chest would have excellent protection during a side collision.

Coming to the occupant protection, the 2019 Toyota Camry has secured a perfect score for both the side and front crash. ASEAN NCAP has mentioned that the children who are seated at the back will be safe. However, it gets nine points only for the assessment of child seat-friendly features and for ease of installation the car has scored 11.44 points.

The 2019 Toyota Camry gets a perfect eight points for the braking efficiency and avoidance technologies. Also, it secured 1.22 points for blind spot technologies, 2 points for advanced safety assistance technologies, and 3 points for seat belt reminders. These help in achieving a score of 14.22 points out of 18 in terms of the safety assist.

The all-new Toyota Camry has only the 2.5V variant in Malaysia, which has a price tag of RM 189,900. It gets the Toyota Safety Sense suite for driver assists that consist of the Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Pre-Collision System (autonomous emergency braking), Automatic High Beam and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Also, the car comes with some standard features like ABS with EBD and brake assist, seven airbags, stability control, etc.
