2019 Porsche Macan S - All you need to know

Just two months after the launch of facelifted Porsche in the base version, Malaysia received the 2019 Porsche Macan S that promises a punchier performance, opposed to the standard Macan that belts out 252 hp against 370 Nm torque. While it outstrips its sibling on the mechanical front, the 2019 Macan S surpasses its pre-facelift version on several parameters. We take a close look at what’s new in the 2019 Porsche Macan S, aesthetic changes on the outside and other tweaks that altogether make it an improved version of its predecessor.

Featuring a more powerful engine underneath and sporting other prominent mechanical changes, the 2019 Porsche Macan S claims to offer more punch over the outgoing version. Besides, subtle aesthetic tweaks further improve its visual appeal and it packs some new features that round up the changes made to the 2019 version. With the above changes, the new Macan S price gets slight change and is being retailed at RM 625,000 (excluding registration, road tax and insurance). Also, there is a standard Premium Package, which includes a four-year warranty and maintenance package.

Exterior-

First up, the 2019 Macan S retains its proportions and sees no change at large on the design front, sporting the same silhouette as its predecessor. In numeric terms, the new Porsche Macan S gauges 1,923 mm in length and stands at 1,624 mm. Styling changes on the outside are subtle and reinforce aggression. The revised face now features a restyled bumper with more streamlined air-intakes and four-point LED designs with Porsche Dynamic Lighting System Plus as optional for the headlamp units. At the side, it retains most of the styling save for some superficial bits and borrows 18-inch alloy wheels from the base Macan. The bumper at the rear end has also been revised and there is a three-dimensional LED light panel with Porsche lettering. The LED lighting strip, subtly tweaked read diffuser round up the styling at the back.

Changes have also been extended to the interior that transforms the five-seater cabin into a more comfortable space, equipped with advanced tech. It sits on a 2,807 mm long wheelbase and has a cargo space with a volume of 488 litres. The air-con vents have been repositioned to accommodate the new and larger 10.9-inch display, as a part of Porsche’s Communication Management (PCM). A GT sports steering wheel is equipped for the assistance of the driver, which comes with a Sport Response button and mode dial with the Sport Chrono Package. Comfort has been given prominence with features such as 14-way power-adjustable seats, power steering plus, comfort lighting package, Bose surround sound system, self-dimming mirrors and Park Assist including reverse camera layered inside.

Engine -

The talking point of the 2019 Porsche Macan is the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine that has been tuned to put out 14 hp more power and 20Nm increased torque. The tuned engine now makes 354 hp of maximum power against 480 Nm of top torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic unit. This mechanical set-up propels 2019 Macan S to 100 kmph from standstill within 5.1 seconds, while attaining a top speed of 254 kmph. One must note, the acceleration time mentioned above is for the Sport Chrono pack. As for the base Macan, it sprints to 100 km/h from rest in 6.7 seconds, which makes it slower than the S version. The claimed combined CO2 emissions are 204 g/km and the combined fuel consumption is 8.9 litres per 100 km. Also, the staggered-width wheels and tyres are equipped to the chassis and the Porsche Traction Management is also fitted to support the all-wheel drive.

Suspension and Braking -

Another highlight is PASM ride height adjustable air-suspension with active damper control and customers can avail Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus for improved handling. Porsche claims to have given prominence to the brake pedal feel that offers a precise pressure point. Also available as optional is the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system that can be optioned at an additional premium. The brakes in front are larger as they receive a 10 mm increase in diameter to 360 mm and thickness has also been increased by 2 mm to 36 mm.
