2024 Toyota Yaris Hybrid debuts in Europe

KUALA LUMPUR: First introduced in 2019, the Toyota Yaris Hybrid has received a mid-cycle update in Europe. The updated version benefits from a new, more powerful hybrid engine and new features with no major changes in terms of aesthetics. Let’s know the upgraded bits in detail, starting with the mechanicals.

The 2024 Toyota Yaris hybrid gets a new Hybrid 130 powertrain which features the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine as the Hybrid 115, which is paired with a more powerful electric motor. With the latter, the combined power increased from 116 PS to 130 PS and the torque went up from 141 Nm to 185 Nm.

The power is sent to the wheels via an E-CVT gearbox, allowing the hatch to run from zero to 100 kmph in 9.2 seconds. However, the CO2 emissions of the Hybrid 130 are slightly higher than the Hybrid 115, but according to Toyota the car still retains its best-in-class status within the range of 96–116 grams per km.

The new hybrid mill will be standard in the new Europe-spec Premiere Edition and existing GR Sport trims. The Premiere Edition is the new flagship variant of the upgraded Yaris, which comes loaded with all bells and whistles. It exclusively features 17-inch alloys, Neptune Blue exterior paint with black roof and pillars, and blue accents in the cabin.

Other key upgrades of the 2024 Toyota Yaris hybrid are -

• A new digital user experience with a faster multimedia system and a new digital instrument cluster operated by a 7- or 12.3-inch combo-metre and 9- or 10.5-inch infotainment screen
• Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system with cloud-based navigation and a voice recognition function
• Easy access with Smart digital key
• Over-the-air software updates
• A new camera and radar
• Upgraded Toyota T-Mate safety pack comprising new features like Proactive Driving Assist, Steering Assist, Acceleration Suppression At Low Speed, Emergency Driving Stop System, Safe Exit Assist, Rear Seat Reminder System 

The new Toyota Yaris hybrid will go on sale in Europe in the third quarter of 2023.
