Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV posts 94.68 points in ASEAN NCAP, perfect AOP score

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Malaysia has announced that its Tiggo 7 PHEV has secured a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating under the 2021–2025 test protocol, posting an overall score of 94.68 points.

According to the company, the SUV’s score came from four areas assessed by ASEAN NCAP, Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist (SA), and Motorcycle Assist (MS). Chery says the Tiggo 7 PHEV scored 40.00 points in AOP, 17.18 points in COP, 20.00 points in SA, and 17.50 points in MS.

On the equipment front, Chery lists eight airbags and a broad set of active safety systems as standard, including ESC and ABS, seatbelt reminders for front and rear occupants, rear seat occupant detection, ISOFIX, and Child Presence Detection (CPD).

The ADAS list mentioned includes AEB City and AEB Inter-Urban, blind spot detection for both sides, adaptive high beam, Parking Pilot, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, and AEB for motorcycles.

Chery also highlighted CPD as one of the notable features fitted to the Tiggo 7 PHEV. The system is designed to prompt the driver to check the rear seats if the rear doors were opened before the trip starts, a function aimed at reducing the risk of leaving a child behind unintentionally.

For context, the current ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 protocol totals four domains, with AOP carrying 40.00 points, while COP, SA, and MS each contribute 20.00 points to the overall score.

The Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV is a locally assembled (CKD) five-seat plug-in hybrid SUV priced at RM129,800 on-the-road without insurance, positioning it as the most affordable PHEV currently on sale in Malaysia.

It uses Chery’s CSH system, pairing a 1.5-litre turbo TGDi Miller-cycle engine (143 PS/215 Nm) with a 204 PS/310 Nm electric motor and a DHT150 hybrid transmission, for a combined 275 PS and 365 Nm (Chery quotes 279 PS for the Tiggo 7 PHEV), driving the front wheels.

Power comes from an 18.3 kWh LFP battery for up to 90 km of EV-only range (WLTP), and with a 60-litre fuel tank it claims up to 1,200 km total range. Charging supports 40 kW DC (30–80% in 19 minutes), 6.6 kW AC (30–80% in about 3 hours), and a household 3-pin plug (10–100% in around 8.5 hours), plus it gets 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L).

Equipment highlights include 18-inch wheels, powered tailgate, LED headlights with active cornering and sequential indicators, and a cabin centred around a 24.6-inch dual-screen setup with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wired and wireless), an 8-speaker Sony audio system, 50W wireless charging, voice assistant, ventilated and heated front seats, a cooled console box, double-glazed acoustic glass, rear air vents, and remote engine start.
