KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Malaysia has expanded its Tiggo 8 line-up with the introduction of the new Tiggo 8, a seven-seat SUV positioned as the more attainable option sitting below the Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 8 PHEV Chery Super Hybrid.

Under the hood, the Tiggo 8 uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged gasoline direct injection (TGDi) engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
Chery Malaysia lists the output at 197 PS and 290 Nm, and claims it is tuned to cover the usual family use case, commuting during the week, plus longer highway runs when needed.
Fuel consumption is quoted at around 7.0 L/100 km, aiming for a balance between performance and everyday running costs.

Size, seating and practicality
The Tiggo 8 sits at 4,772 mm long and 1,860 mm wide, with a 2,710 mm wheelbase. Kerb weight is stated as 1,590 kg, and the company is quoting up to 1,930 litres of cargo space with the seats folded. A power tailgate is fitted as standard, intended to make loading and unloading less of a chore.
Cabin tech, comfort and the essentials
Inside, the Tiggo 8 is pitched as a modern family SUV with the expected convenience kit. It gets dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, a power sunroof with an integrated sunshade, and a Sony premium sound system with eight speakers.
Smartphone connectivity is covered with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wired), and the cabin features a 12.3-inch infotainment screen plus a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

Safety and driver assists
Chery says safety is a key focus for the Tiggo 8, with a body structure that uses 74% high-strength steel, along with six airbags. Driver assistance systems are also part of the package, including features such as: autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, rear collision warning, door open warning, intelligent high beam control, and a distance warning system, plus a 360-degree camera for close-quarter visibility.
