Chery turns up in Penang with hybrids, robots and a TIGGO 7 PHEV giveaway

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Malaysia is using the inaugural Penang Autoshow 2026 to put its latest new energy vehicles in front of buyers in the northern region, with the brand joining the event as Gold Sponsor.

The autoshow takes place from 1 to 3 May 2026 at the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre, bringing the Malaysia Autoshow platform to the northern corridor for the first time.

Organised by Moonman Events and endorsed by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), the Penang Autoshow is aimed at giving northern consumers and industry players closer access to new automotive technologies, especially electrified mobility.

For Chery, the event gives the brand another public platform to showcase its growing hybrid and plug-in hybrid line-up in Malaysia, with the Chery TIGGO 7 PHEV, Chery TIGGO CROSS HEV, and Chery TIGGO 8 available for test drives during the show.

Chery TIGGO 7 PHEV up for grabs

One of the bigger draws at the Chery booth is a lucky draw campaign for visitors who place a booking for any Chery vehicle during the autoshow. Eligible customers will stand a chance to win a Chery TIGGO 7 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, giving the event a stronger pull for those already considering a Chery SUV.

Beyond the booking campaign, visitors can also take part in interactive games at Chery’s wind chamber and win official Chery merchandise. Complimentary coffee and popcorn will also be available at the booth.

TIGGO 7 PHEV, TIGGO CROSS HEV and TIGGO 8 available for test drive

Chery is also offering test drives of selected models along the autoshow’s 4.8-km test drive route. The route gives visitors a chance to sample the cars in more realistic conditions, rather than just viewing them on display.

The test drive line-up includes the TIGGO 7 PHEV, TIGGO CROSS HEV, and TIGGO 8, covering Chery’s current push into electrified SUVs as well as its broader family SUV range.

For buyers curious about the difference between a plug-in hybrid and a regular hybrid, this should be one of the easier ways to experience both back-to-back in the same location.

AiMOGA robots also on display

Chery’s booth will also feature its AiMOGA robotics display, with robots Argos and Mornine set to interact with visitors through meet-and-greet sessions throughout the day.

The robotics showcase is being positioned around Chery’s wider interest in intelligent mobility, automation, and future-facing technology, while also tying in with MARii’s focus on advanced mobility development in Malaysia.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, MARii CEO Azrul Reza Aziz, Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan Hooi Peng, Chery Corporate Malaysia Senior Director of Product Strategy and Fleet Sales Michael Chew, and Chery Malaysia Marketing and Branding Director Celeste Lim were also present during the autoshow’s media day.

Overall, Chery’s presence at the Penang Autoshow 2026 is less about showing one single headline model and more about getting northern buyers closer to its electrified SUV range.

With the TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO CROSS HEV now part of its public push, the brand is clearly trying to make hybrid and plug-in hybrid options more visible to Malaysian SUV buyers.
