Designed to compete in the compact electric sedan segment, the MG S5 EV promises more than just quiet motoring. According to SAIC Motor Malaysia’s Managing Director, Emory QiFeng, the S5 EV aims to “deliver more than just electric driving experience – it’s about driving enjoyment and segment-defining performance.”

    There are three variants available:

    • MG S5 EV COM (49kWh) – RM115,900

    • MG S5 EV COM Long Range (62kWh) – RM125,900

    • MG S5 EV LUX Long Range (62kWh) – RM135,900

As part of an introductory offer, MG is offering RM6,000 in savings for the first 500 buyers, bringing the starting price down to RM109,900. A 7kW AC Wallbox charger is also bundled in (installation not included) to help buyers set up home charging more easily.

The MG S5 EV features a sleek exterior, a roomy cabin, and tech like the MG iSmart system, aimed at making connected driving more accessible to the masses. MG claims the car offers class-leading agility and responsive handling – part of what it calls “British driving dynamics.”

To support the launch, a nationwide series of test drive events has been lined up throughout June and early July. Shoppers can check out the S5 EV at the following mentioned locations.

    Main differences between the variants

Now that pricing and full specifications for the MG S5 EV are out, here’s a quick look at what sets the three variants apart.

The base COM variant comes with a 49 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering up to 340 km of WLTP-rated range. It’s the most affordable option and comes with fabric seats, 17-inch black alloy wheels, and the core features shared across the lineup — including MG’s iSmart connectivity, a 12.8-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, seven airbags, and a full ADAS suite.

Step up to the COM Long Range, and you get a larger 62 kWh battery capable of 430 km of range. This variant adds partial leather-fabric seats with perforated MG logos and a powered driver’s seat with manual lumbar adjustment, offering a bit more comfort for longer drives.

At the top of the range is the LUX Long Range, which retains the same 62 kWh battery but adds a number of premium features:

    • 18-inch two-tone Bridgestone wheels

    • Wireless phone charger

    • 360-degree camera

    • Powered tailgate with kick sensor

    • Panoramic sunroof

    • Auto wipers, six speakers (up from four), and a leather-wrapped steering wheel

It’s also the only variant that supports faster 150 kW DC charging, reducing 10–80% charging times to just 26 minutes. The LUX is also the only one available in the exclusive Elegant Latte colour.

All variants share the same 170 PS rear-mounted electric motor, making the MG S5 EV the only rear-wheel drive EV in its segment. MG also includes a standard Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature, multi-link rear suspension, and three levels of regenerative braking.
