Original Land Rover Defender is making a comeback; limited to 25 units only
KUALA LUMPUR: Land Rover Classic is bringing back the original Land Rover Defender. Limited to only 25 units, the vehicle will feature several off-road upgrades and striking livery inspired by the popular Camel Trophy expeditions.
Aren’t aware of the Camel Trophy? It was an annual off-road expedition that took place from 1980 to 1998. Here the teams raced modified, factory supplied Land Rovers across some of the harshest terrains in the world. The vehicles also took part in several special tasks like orienteering, rally stages, and winching trials.
The upcoming Land Rover Classic will be available in 3-door 90 and 5-door 110 versions. Further, its tribute to the Camel Trophy is based on the models that initially commenced the event in the 80’s.
“The Land Rover Defender has always been more than just a vehicle; its engineering capability and suitability for overland expedition and all-terrain competition means it’s renowned with getting away from it all. The new Land Rover Trophy will bring this to life for a new generation of adventurers" said Dan Pink, Land Rover Classic director. He further added, “We’re looking forward to an exciting and memorable event, full of camaraderie, and continuing the Land Rover Trophy legend for years to come. Seeing the silhouette of these vehicles which you’ll instantly know as a Land Rover, traversing the hills at Eastnor, will be a defining moment of the adventure.”
Powering the Defender Works V8 Trophy is a 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine that pumps out a maximum power of 399 hp. Paired to an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox , the said configuration is shared with the limited-run Defender Works V8. Helping the car tackle rough roads are present several extensive gears like underbody protection, a winch, chunky off-road tyres, heavy-duty rack, and LED spotlight.
On the design front, the car benefits from a retro-inspired Eastnor Yellow hue with contrastingblack wheel arches, tailgate, and bonnet. At the front, it gets the ‘Heritage’ style grille that sure gives the car an empowering look and feel. The 16-inch colour-coded steel wheels are also a tribute to the original Defender. Further, the customers can opt for personalised competition graphics.
All the 25 customers will be invited to a three-day long off-road expedition at Eastnor Castle, England. Here, they will drive the Land Rover Classic for the first time while participating in a series of challenges - inspired by global adventures and competitions spanning across decades of Land Rover production.
