2020 Perodua Bezza: Top Alternatives

Launched for the first time in 2016, the Perodua Bezza has become one of the top choices in Malaysia in the segment. Recently, Perodua brought out the newest iteration of its Bezza with several soft visual alterations, powertrains upgrades, and the addition of it's Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0. For the 2020 model year, the Perodua Bezza is available in four different variants, namely 1.0L GX MT, 1.0L GX AT, 1.3L X AT, and 1.3L AV AT with the price ranging from RM 34,580 to RM 49,980.

On the outside, the 2020 Perodua Bezza sports a sharp stance thanks to the presence of elements such as slim LED headlamps, muscular bumpers, sporty side skirts, revisited stylish taillamps, and new dual-tone 15-inch alloy wheels. Similar to the exterior, the interior is also just as decorated if not more and flaunts various creature comforts like smart keyless entry with push-button start/stop, adequately cushioned seating, leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system, and much more.

The 2020 Perodua Bezza specs sheet gets two engine options, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine making 68 PS /91 Nm available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox and a larger 1.3-litre four-cylinder motor churning out 95 PS / 121 Nm that comes mated to a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

2020 Perodua Bezza safety features

Even though it comes at a budget, the 2020 Perodua is a rather safe car with safety features like dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, seat belt reminder, wireless door lock, alarm, and the Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0 that brings along the likes of vehicle stability control, traction control, and others. With all that understood, the 2020 Perodua Bezza makes for a solid car at RM 34,580 to RM 49,980, doesn't it? However, just like it is the case with any other product in the market, the Malaysian sedan also faces competition from cars which are just as good, and even better in some aspects. Let's have a look.

So, what all cars can be picked over the 2020 Perodua Bezza?

Interestingly enough, even though the 2020 Perodua Bezza belongs to a highly inexpensive segment, it doesn't really have too many competitors. The only offerings present in the segment that one can consider over the 2020 Perodua Bezza are the Proton Saga and the Proton Persona, both of which are also Malaysian cars. So, how do the two considerable alternatives pack in to give the 2020 Perodua Bezza a tough fight? Let's find out.

Proton Saga

Proton Saga

The Proton Saga is one of the oldest cars still running on the Malaysian roads with pride. After coming out of the Malaysian automaker's production facilities in the mid-1980s, the Saga has seen the world change, yet it still finds it rather easy to find new homes even 2020. The sedan was the best-selling model for Proton in 2019 with 38,144 sales, all thanks to the newest iteration that was launched last year. Having a look at the Proton Saga, it certainly isn't the best looking cars out there. However, it gets enough jewellery in the form of large headlamps, stylish LED DRLs, Proton's new grille, 14-inch alloy wheels, a strong shoulder line, large wraparound taillamps, and other bits & pieces to entice the masses.

Proton Saga cabin

Hop inside the Proton Saga, and you are greeted by a three-spoke tilt-adjustable multifunction steering wheel, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, comfortable seating, LED cabin lamps, height-adjustable driver's seat, 12V power socket, LCD multi-information display in the instrument cluster, foldable rear seat, and many other creature comforts.

If you are okay with spending a little more in order to receive more glamour, features, power, and a higher safety co-efficient, you want to have a look at the Proton Persona before you decide to get yourself a 2020 Perodua Bezza or a Proton Saga. The Proton Persona started its journey in the year 1993 and has left no stone unturned to capture the market since then. Even though the sedan belongs to a segment different than the 2020 Perodua Bezza, we are considering it as one of the rivals of the Bezza because of its price. Available in four different variants and with a price tag that ranges from RM 42,600 to RM 54,600, which makes it one of the competitors of the Bezza that is priced at RM 34,580 - RM 49,980.

Then we have push-button start/stop, two rear USB charging points, intelligent keyless entry, audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, and much more. Under the hood of the Proton Persona is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine that is capable of churning out 109 PS of maximum power alongside a peak torque of 150 Nm. As for the transmission options, customers can choose from a five-speed manual gearbox and a CVT.
