ETCM hands over two Nissan Kicks e-Power to Royal Malaysia Police for real-world assessment

KUALA LUMPUR: Instead of relying solely on showroom displays, roadshows, and media test drives, automakers also tend to collaborate with organisations to demonstrate the real-world capabilities of their vehicles. Joining this trend, Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM), the official distributor of Nissan vehicles in Malaysia, has handed over two units of the Kicks e-Power to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for frontline evaluation. 

The electrified vehicles have been handed over for a two-month Proof of Concept evaluation programme, with no obligation. The models will undergo real-world patrol assessments to evaluate their performance, practicality and suitability for frontline operations.

Conducted under actual working conditions, this assessment aims to demonstrate how the vehicle’s electrified technology can support the operational requirements of frontline mobility. It will offer valuable insights into the Kicks e-Power’s capability, efficiency and adaptability across demanding duty cycles.

"As we continuously explore solutions that can enhance operational effectiveness, it is important that any new technology is assessed under real-world conditions. This Proof of Concept programme enables us to evaluate the Nissan KICKS e-POWER's performance, practicality and suitability for frontline operations. The insights gained will contribute to our ongoing efforts to identify mobility solutions that best support the operational needs of the Royal Malaysia Police," said Commissioner of Police Redzuan Bin Abd Hamid, Director of the Logistics and Technology Department of the Royal Malaysia Police Headquarters, Bukit Aman.

A brief on the Nissan Kicks e-Power

ETCM offers the Kicks e-Power in two variants in Malaysia - VL and VLT, priced at RM 113,800 and RM 121,800. This electrified vehicle utilises e-POWER technology, where an electric motor solely drives the wheels and the petrol engine is only used to charge the battery under certain conditions. This setup offers instant torque, a quiet drive, and does not require external charging, setting it apart from both conventional hybrids and electric vehicles.

The Nissan Kicks e-Power carries a front-mounted 129 PS/280 Nm electric motor and a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated three-cylinder. It comes with three drive modes - Normal, Sport, and Eco, and an e-Pedal Step, which allows drivers to accelerate and decelerate using a single pedal, reducing the need for frequent braking.

Equipped with a 41-litre fuel tank, the SUV offers a total range of up to 900 km and a rated fuel consumption of 21.7 km per litre.
