Honda Malaysia delivered 53,031 cars last year, targeting 80,000 in 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: After a long wait, here we have received the Honda sales figures for 2021. The Japanese automaker sold a total of 53,031 cars last year while maintaining its lead in the passenger vehicle segment for the eighth consecutive year. However, it lost the title of Malaysia’s No.1 non-national car brand, which has been grabbed by Toyota by selling 71,585 units.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many cars did Honda Malaysia sell in 2021?

Honda Malaysia sold a total of 53,031 cars last year while maintaining its lead in the passenger vehicle segment for the eighth consecutive year.
  • Which was the best-selling Honda model in Malaysia in 2021?

Honda City was the best-selling Honda model in Malaysia in 2021, accounting for 36% of sales.
  • Constituting 10.4% of the total industry volume, Honda sales for 2021 is 12.3% lower than the 60,469 deliveries the automaker made in 2020. The reason for this contraction is obviously the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing semiconductor chip shortage at the global level.

If we dissect the sales in terms of regions, the company sold more than 25,000 units in the central region, more than 9,800 units in the southern and more than 9,100 units in the northern regions.

Model-wise, the Honda City accounts for 36% of total sales, followed by the HR-V and CR-V with 21% and 14%, respectively.

Well, this is the story of the past and now Honda is looking forward to 2022. It has targeted to sell 80,000 cars this year, which accounts for almost 13.33% of the total industry volume of 600,000 units, projected by the Malaysia Automotive Association (MAA) for this year.

Further throwing light on its 2022 plans, Honda said that it is confident in hitting this target with its formulated strategy. The latter includes the launch of two all-new models in the country and the strengthening of its after-sales services.

Well, Toyota is also not behind in launching the new vehicles. It has already rolled out the Corolla Cross Hybrid earlier this year and the new Camry just yesterday

It will be interesting to see which of these Japanese automakers will take away the title of Malaysia’s No.1 non-national car brand in 2022.
