Toyota Malaysia entered the new year 2022 with a bang, i.e., by introducing the Corolla Cross Hybrid. The crossover is going strong as ever and has a lot of merits on its side. We recently took the car for a spin and it didn’t fail to impress us. In fact, it is by far the most comfortable car we have driven in the segment and feels more like a good, premium sedan.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Is the Toyota Corolla Cross performing well in Malaysia?

Exceeding Toyota’s initial projection, over 40 percent of customers opted for the hybrid variant over the regular.
  • Is the Toyota hybrid a safe car?

The Hybrid model like the 1.8V Corolla Cross benefits from the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assistance systems along with several active & passive features.
  • In addition to offering a smooth drive, the Corolla Cross Hybrid that is now CKD locally assembled and sits on top of the model line-up has a lot to offer. Let’s find out via our Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid’s picture gallery.

     Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid specs

Toyota has stepped up the hybrid game with the Corolla Cross Hybrid which is powered by the 4th Generation Toyota Hybrid Electric System. In a way, it truly is the gateway to a brighter F.U.T.U.R.E with every letter denoting specific merit -

F stands for Fuel Efficiency (e-motor helps save via reducing fuel consumption)
U stands for Unmatched Comfort (in EV mode, only the e-motor is on duty which is silent and emits no cabin noise)
T for Tomorrow-Driven (less petrol usage leads to less CO2 emission)
U for Unrivalled Technology (the battery lasts longer than ever, thanks to an improved battery-cooling system, air filtration, & Hybrid Electric software)
R for Reassurance (Toyota offers 8-years unlimited mileage for battery, inverter, and power management control ECU)
E for Excitement (Toyota hybrid’s lower centre of gravity calls for greater handling)

    Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid platform

The new Corolla Cross Hybrid benefits from the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) wherein the vehicle’s base is designed to optimise agility, stability and visibility.

    Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid engine

Working in conjunction with the electric motor is an internal combustion engine - a 1.8-litre 16-Valve DOHC mill with VVT-i. The powertrain is designed exclusively by the brand to minimise friction, offer higher heat management and more fuel efficiency. Moreover, Toyota has reduced the engine’s size and weight to fit the new TNGA Platform while offering optimum output and cabin quietness.

Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Driving mode

Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid offers the driver two driving modes - EV and SPORT. While the former maximises fuel efficiency and gives the e-motor full control, the latter offers a more responsible acceleration.

Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid instrument cluster

The Corolla Cross Hybrid benefits from a 7-inch multi-information display that even changes colour when the driver switches mode (red in Sport & green in Eco). Also, the display is designed to offer maximum visibility offering the driver all necessary information at a glance.

Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid power adjustable seat

Offering the driver optimum driving position is the Corolla Cross Hybrid’s 8-way power adjuster. Maximum comfort at the push of a button.

Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid rear seat

Taking care of the passengers at the back are well-cushioned seats with a 6-degree recline angle for a more comfortable posture. The armrest size is also optimised for the best. Further, the rear air-con vents won’t let the rear seat passengers suffer scorching heat.

Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid front seat

Toyota has made the centre console wider for an enhanced appearance with the sliding armrest offering occupants utmost comfort irrespective of their physique.

    Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid cabin

The Corolla Cross Hybrid offers multi-functional steering (with controls for audio, MID, telephone, lane tracing assist, and adaptive cruise control), a massive 9-inch infotainment system with real-time navigation, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto support, USB, BLUETOOTH, MIRACAST & music options, and dual-zone air-con system with independent temperature control for driver and front passenger.

Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid boot space

Toyota’s latest hybrid offers a generous boot space of 440-litre and all the area remains uncompromised thanks to the repositioning of the Hybrid Electric battery. With a 60:40 foldable rear seat, you can even fit long items. And to top it all, the car comes with a kick-sensor power tailgate.

The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid is in many ways more advanced than its petrol siblings and therefore is a bit expensive as well. Priced at RM 136,555, it is offered in five colour options - Red Mica Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Nebula Blue Metallic, Silver Metallic, and Celestite Grey Metallic.
