Next-Gen Range Rover, to share MLA base with Jaguar XJ

KUALA LUMPUR: The MLA platform which was primarily used in Range Rover, will be shared with the next Jaguar XJ. The upcoming, fifth-gen Range Rover is said to deepen the extent of its electrification. The car is expected to feature a plug-in hybrid and internal combustion engines with a fully electric powertrain. This new generation CAR will have a zero-emission vision, when it arrives.

The upcoming generation of the Range Rover is expected to be a battery version of the car, which includes a battery pack with up to 90kWh capacity. This vehicle is set to feature the ‘skateboard’ versatility, which ensures that the upcoming model won’t be confined to just an electric powertrain but also offer new turbocharged in-line six engines along with the petrol and diesel V8’s.

Driving infrastructure of the upcoming Rover is expected to be a collaborative work between Jaguar’s Land Rover and BMW. The collaboration will work over the electric motor and control systems of the car along with working on the all-wheel-drive setup of the vehicle. The existing models of the Range Rovers are expected to have some form of electrification done over their internal combustion engines.

Nick Collins, the vehicle line director of Jaguar Land Rover, exclaimed that the nature of electric powertrains works for the Range Rover. The line director also said, “On the road, the increased refinement and silent running of an electrified powertrain excites me. And off-road, you get peak torque at zero revs together with much more accurate control”.

The Recognisable shape of the Range Rover won’t be altered for the future vehicles as well. Apart from the other flagship models, the second-generation Evoque is also set to receive some form of electrification and will have a plug-in hybrid.
