Not just for the tarmac: iCAUR 03 lets Malaysians off-road an EV—Yes, Really

KUALA LUMPUR: You don’t usually associate electric SUVs with steep climbs, water splashes, or teeter-totter ramps—but that’s exactly what iCAUR is offering Malaysians this weekend at 1 Utama.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What makes the iCAUR 03 different from other electric SUVs in Malaysia?

The iCAUR 03 is Malaysia’s first fully electric off-road-capable SUV, built on an all-aluminium monocoque chassis and featuring off-road hardware like H-arm multilink suspension, iWD traction control, and a 4-layer IPX8 battery protection system.
  • Where and when can I test drive the iCAUR 03 myself?

You can test drive the iCAUR 03 on a special off-road course at the iCAUR Public Roadshow from June 20–22, 2025 (10AM–6PM) at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Ground Floor Carpark (Old Wing).
  • As far as EV exhibitions go, few brands let you drive their electric SUV off-road. And fewer still let you do it on a custom-built course in a mall carpark.

But that’s the point, isn’t it? You’ll probably spend most of your time in an EV stuck in traffic, ferrying your kids to tuition or cruising through the city.

Still, when Malaysia’s famously unpredictable roads suddenly turn into a light off-roading course—flooded lanes, construction detours, washed-out kampung paths—it’s reassuring to know your electric SUV can get you through the mess.

That’s where the iCAUR 03 steps in. Fresh from its world debut in Shanghai and regional reveal at Malaysia Autoshow 2025, this fully electric off-road-capable SUV is now the star of the iCAUR iEXPERIENCE Off-Road Test Drive at 1 Utama’s Ground Floor Carpark (Old Wing).

From now until June 22, the public can put the iCAUR 03 through its paces on a cleverly designed four-part course that shows off the very features that make it more than just another city cruiser.

    Off-Road, in a Mall? Here’s what you’ll experience:

    iSee-Saw
The challenge starts off literally on the edge—this sharply angled see-saw ramp is designed to test how much the iCAUR 03 can flex while maintaining stability.

As the car climbs up one end and balances on just two diagonal wheels, you’ll feel the body lean but never waver, thanks to the SUV’s high torsional rigidity and H-arm multilink rear suspension. It’s a great demonstration of how the chassis and suspension work in harmony to keep things composed—even when one wheel is dangling in mid-air.

    iSlide
This segment mimics a steep hill climb, with a 55% incline that pushes the EV’s motors and drivetrain. Most drivers would hesitate on such a slope, but the iCAUR 03’s electric torque comes in instantly and without fuss.

As you ease off the accelerator on the descent, intelligent brake control kicks in—no need to “ride the brake.” This obstacle also showcases the SUV’s approach and departure angles, letting you feel how the vehicle clears sharp terrain edges without scraping or catching.

    iSplash
Designed to simulate urban flash floods and rural water crossings, this 400mm-deep splash zone lets you drive through standing water while staying bone dry inside.

Many visitors will be surprised at how quiet and composed the iCAUR 03 feels even as it ploughs through the water—thanks to its fully sealed battery system with IPX8 rating and multiple protective layers. It’s more than just for show; this is tech you’d want on rainy days in KL or during monsoon season balik kampung trips.

    iBreaker
Arguably the most technical part of the course, this station isolates the car’s grip by placing three wheels on smooth rollers and only one on solid ground. Most vehicles would spin their wheels helplessly—but the iCAUR 03’s Intelligent Wheel Drive (iWD) system senses which wheel has traction, and immediately sends torque there.

The result? Smooth, progressive movement without fuss. It’s a smart demonstration of how EVs with proper software and drivetrain engineering can outperform traditional AWD setups in tricky conditions.

    Why this EV matters

This isn’t just a gimmick. The iCAUR 03 brings something that most EVs in Malaysia still lack—off-road credibility with peace of mind. Its safety credentials start with an all-aluminium monocoque chassis—the first of its kind for an EV SUV in Malaysia. That, combined with a reinforced battery protection system made of hardened aluminium, ceramic thermal shields, and IPX8 waterproofing, shows that this machine is built for abuse without compromising on EV safety.

It also features Level 2.5 ADAS, including Emergency Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and Traffic Jam Assist, giving you plenty of support during daily drives. Inside, it’s all tech—15.6” touchscreen, a 12-speaker INFINITY audio system, and a 540° Transparent Chassis camera view for full visibility.

    Two variants to choose from

The iCAUR 03 comes in two configurations:

    • 2WD variant with 135kW (184 PS) and 220Nm of torque, using a 65.7kWh LFP battery for up to 426km of range (NEDC).

    • iWD dual-motor variant with 205kW (279 PS) and 385Nm of torque, paired with a 69.8kWh battery good for 418km (NEDC).

Prices are estimated between RM145,000 and RM155,000, and you can book one now for just RM1,000 (fully refundable).

    Try It for yourself

The iCAUR Public Roadshow runs from 20–22 June 2025, 10AM to 6PM, at the Ground Floor Carpark (Old Wing), 1 Utama Shopping Centre. This is your chance to test the iCAUR 03’s real-world capability and see if it’s the EV that can truly go beyond the pavement.

Who says electric cars are just for the city?
With the iCAUR 03, adventure doesn’t stop where the road ends.
