Perodua sales report 2022: 282,019 units sold with 48.2% y-on-y growth

KUALA LUMPUR: Along with Proton, we have also received the yearly sales report of the country’s largest car brand Perodua. P2 sold a total of 282,019 units in 2022 with a growth of 48.2% over the 190,291 cars sold in 2021. 

The year 2022 was not only a year of record-breaking sales for Perodua, but was also a year of maximising the local auto industry’s potential, said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad. 

The company’s production increased by 49.5% to 289,054 units in 2022 as compared to 193,400 units manufactured in 2021. After sales also witnessed a growth of 30% with 2.6 million service intakes during the year. 

“These achievements were also the local ecosystem’s shared commitment towards our customers and our collective roles in advancing this industry.” 

“The industry did a lot soul searching and from the learning points obtained during the pandemic and we realised that we needed to take active steps to recover in 2021 – which saw its fair share of challenges and from there to maximise the ecosystem’s potential in 2022,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said.

According to him, the industry faced a lot of challenges during the year such as massive floods, the shortage of workers due to Covid-19, the shortage of semiconductor chips, as well as the sudden hike in the prices of raw materials. But with the proper planning, the company and its associates managed to overcome these challenges and achieved the much-needed growth. The brand worked towards meeting customers’ expectations in terms of delivery of products and services and introducing greater value offerings.

“This can be seen with our December 2022 production and sales performance, which averaged 1,000 vehicles made and registered per day,” Dato’ Sri Zainal added.

Perodua targets for 2023

Now for 2023, the company aims to leverage the growth achieved so far and to further expand capacity. “For this to come true, we hope material prices and fuel prices remain manageable; at the same time, we also hope that foreign exchange and interest rates would be favourable to industry growth,” said Perodua President.

As for now, the company has no intentions of increasing the vehicles’ prices if these factors remain within acceptable levels. 

Further, key strategies of the brand include - 

• Timely delivery of cars to those who booked their Perodua within the sales tax exemption period
• Introduce new technologies in its future products and services with continuous investment in innovative operations
• Encourage partners (suppliers and dealers) to make continuous investments in new technologies so that they can become more competitive and productive

A detailed list of the company’s yearly targets will be released later this month.
