Proton records 5% m-o-m growth in May 2025, e.MAS 7 hits new milestone

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton has revealed the sales numbers for May 2025, marking the brand’s third consecutive month of positive growth (Mar, April, and May). During the last month, the automaker sold a total of 13,328 units (domestic, export, smart, Proton e.MAS), representing a 5% increase over the 12,692 units sold in April 2025.

    • Continues to be Proton’s best-selling model with 5,513 units sold in May (up 5.8% from April)
    • YTD total: 26513 units (approx)

    Proton X50

    • Leading the B-segment SUV category with 2,198 units sold in May 
    • YTD total: 9,704 units

    Proton S70

    • Maintaining the lead in the C-segment sedan category with 1,763 units sold in May (up 2.7% from April)
    • YTD sales: 7,994 units

    Proton X70

    • Witnessed the highest monthly growth among all models with 982 units sold in May (up 44% from April)
    • YTD total: 3,821 units (53.1% ahead of its YTD 2024 sales)

    Proton e.MAS 7 

    • Best-selling EV in Malaysia
    • Achieved a new record with 916 units sold in May (crossed 900-unit sales mark for the first time)
    • YTD sales: 3,632 units

    Proton X90

    • Staying ahead in the D-segment SUV category with 224 units sold in May (up 15.5% from April)
    • YTD total: 1097 units

    Proton Persona 

    • 1,385 units sold in May (up 4.3% from April)

    Proton Iriz

    • Holding its place as the 4th most popular B-segment hatchback with 331 units sold in May (up 14.1% from April)

    “After a slow start to 2025, sales of Proton vehicles have shown an upward trend over the last three months. This is a direct result of our promotion efforts as well as the strong attraction car buyers have to our range that offers stylish, technology-driven products sold via an industry-leading network of 3S/4S outlets. Going into the second half of 2025, PROTON is confident we can maintain our momentum as we initiate a flurry of events and model introductions in line with the next phase of our overall business plan,” said Dr Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer, PROTON.

    Proton’s export & expansion updates

    Proton has been continuously improving its presence in overseas markets. This year, it launched the CKD Proton Saga in the Egyptian market and introduced the e.MAS 7 in Nepal and Singapore. Looking ahead, the automaker will soon be taking its first EV to Trinidad & Tobago. 

    The top-selling Proton cars in international markets are the Proton Saga and Proton X50, with YTD export sales growing by 360% to reach 694 units.

    “The increased focus placed on growing export sales is paying short-term dividends as we see an immediate uptick in volume. Penetrating and being successful in overseas markets requires long-term commitment, and PROTON is confident we can achieve our goals with a structured plan to manage our expansion,” added Li Chunrong.
