KUALA LUMPUR: Proton recently revealed its brand-new B-segment SUV, the X50. Since then, a lot of information and updates about the car have been made available. We were starting with Proton X50's production. The Malaysian automaker recently revealed that the SUV rolled off the production line at its Tanjung Malim plant. It is the same facility that recently saw an extension of RM 1.2 billion.

Since Proton X50 will be locally assembled, it will heavily benefit the country's automotive vendor community. According to Proton, the SUV's purchase intent is expected to be around RM 1.8 billion annually. Not to mention X70's RM 1 billion part purchase quota, making Proton's annual contribution to the automotive vendors fall at around RM 2.8 billion, which we must say is an excellent contribution to the Malaysian economy.

Dato' Sri Faisal Albar, Proton Chairman, said, "As a company that manufactures locally, PROTON's growth means more money is injected into Malaysia's automotive vendor ecosystem leading to more jobs and wealth creation. This is vital at a time when COVID-19 has significantly hit Malaysia's economy."

With Proton X50 on-board, Proton expects to continue its growth trajectory. For the record, as of August 2020, Proton was the only automaker ahead of its previous year's sales volume.

Proton X50 bookings

Starting today, interested customers can visit the company's showrooms nationwide and book Proton's new SUV at a booking fee of RM 500. Also, special customer preview sessions will be organized at four different locations starting September 19. It will be closed-door events, information of which will be passed on soon.

Proton X50 Slogan Contest

Keeping up the car's hype and making the customer a part of the X50's journey, Proton has a slogan contest, wherein participants can vote for the best slogan for the car out of the four options provided. More details about the contest can be obtained from here.
