Proton SUV X70 scored 5-Star ASEAN NCAP Rating

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton X70 has managed to bag a full 5-star Asean NCAP rating for occupant protection. Proton’s Persona, Iriz, Preve and Suprima S are all 5-star rated cars offered by the brand and now the Proton SUV also joins the league. The X70 is all geared up to make a public appearance for the first time in Malaysia at the 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show.

The Proton X70 was crash tested on the basis of the latest 2017-2020 testing protocol. This protocol focuses on the vehicle’s safety assist technology that counts for 25% of the overall test scoring. This Proton SUV has beaten the scores acquired by Toyota Rush (31.14) and Honda CR-V 2.4 (34.02) in the overall adult occupant protection segment by scoring a total of 35.27 points. The car, however, lagged behind with 40.78 points compared to 41.81 of the Rush and 44.76 of the CR-V 2.4 in the child occupant protection category.

The X70 is the very first Proton model that comes with safety features like lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), blind spot information system, and forward collision warning. All these sophisticated safety features helped the vehicle earn a high score in the safety assist technology segment that further favoured its full 5-star ASEAN NCAP Rating.

Proton also gives the credit of this impressive result to its advanced HPF or Hot Press Forming technology that helps to provide a high level of protection for occupants. This state-of-the-art technology, first introduced back in 2012, adds strength to the vehicle’s structural integrity by three times.

The Proton X70 also comes equipped with other notable safety features like ISOFIX child seat mounting points, seat belts with load limiters and pre-tensioners and six airbags across all the variants available in the market.

Post-launch, the SUV will be sold in Malaysia in three variants - Standard 2WD, Executive 2WD and Executive AWD. Expected price of the vehicle in Malaysia is between RM 98,000 - RM 112,000.
