Volvo EX60 teased with 810 km range claim, adds 340 km in 10 minutes, reveal on 21 Jan 2026
KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo Cars has teased its next all-electric SUV, the Volvo EX60, positioning it as the brand’s longest-range EV yet, and one that’s meant to make long-distance driving feel less like a maths problem.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
When will the Volvo EX60 be revealed?
Volvo says the EX60 will be revealed on 21 January 2026, and the event will be livestreamed. What range is Volvo claiming for the EX60?
Volvo claims up to 810 km on a single charge for the EX60 in an all-wheel drive configuration. How fast can the Volvo EX60 charge?
Volvo says the EX60 can add up to 340 km in 10 minutes when using a 400 kW fast charger. In the company’s own words, the EX60 is built for the kind of trips people actually do, whether that’s Johor to Perlis, Kuala Lumpur to Penang, or crossing between Sabah and Sarawak.

The headline claim is up to 810 kilometres on a single charge in an all-wheel drive configuration, which Volvo says is “best-in-class” and longer than any electric car the company has previously made. The messaging is clear, Volvo wants this car to be the one that turns “range anxiety” into “range comfort”.
Volvo Cars says its engineers have optimised the EX60’s range for real-life driving and what customers experience day to day, not just chasing a number for the brochure.
“The EX60 is designed to be a gamechanger,” says Anders Bell, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo Cars. “With our new electric vehicle architecture, we directly address the main worries that customers have when considering a switch to a fully electric car. The result is class- leading range and fast charging speeds, marking the end of range anxiety.”

Range is only half the story Volvo is selling here. The other half is charging speed. The company says the EX60 can add up to 340 km of range in 10 minutes when plugged into a 400 kW fast charger, and it frames this as the difference between taking a full lunch break versus a quick coffee stop.
Volvo also says charging performance is improved “in all weather conditions”, and adds that all EX60 customers can get a 10-year warranty on the battery.
As with any “up to” claim, Volvo is clearly pointing to best-case capability, but the direction is obvious, the EX60 is being pitched as a no-fuss long-distance EV.

Underneath, the EX60 sits on SPA3, which Volvo calls its most advanced EV architecture so far. Volvo says this platform is key to the EX60’s efficiency because it unlocks gains across the car’s major systems, and helps it reach an electric range the company claims can match petrol-powered cars.
Volvo also highlights cell-to-body technology, where the battery is integrated directly into the car’s structure. The goal is to cut excess weight and improve energy efficiency. Volvo adds that the EX60 uses in-house developed e-motors, and a new cell design that balances energy density with power delivery to push range further.
Manufacturing gets a mention too. Volvo says the EX60 is its first model built with megacasting, replacing “hundreds of smaller parts” with a single high-precision casting. Again, the stated benefit is weight reduction, which feeds back into efficiency and driving range.
800-volt electrical system and software tuned for faster charging
Charging speed is tied to Volvo’s move to an 800-volt electrical system, plus in-house software designed to move energy into the battery more efficiently. Volvo says lighter materials and less heat generation also support quicker charging.
The company also says it has incorporated algorithms from its portfolio company Breathe Battery Technologies, which constantly adjust how the battery takes in power so it stays in an ideal operating zone “at all times and in all weather conditions”.
Less conventional servicing, more driving
Volvo rounds it off with the usual EV ownership angle, fewer moving parts, and the EX60 does not need conventional servicing as often. The company’s overall pitch is that this is a “no-compromises” electric SUV built for everyday freedom, not just city commuting.
When is the Volvo EX60 reveal?
Volvo says the Volvo EX60 will be revealed on 21 January 2026, and the full reveal event will be livestreamed.
