Zeekr 009 Ultra Luxury bags “Overall Malaysia Car of the Year 2025” award

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Car of the Year Awards celebrates the best of the automotive industry, recognising outstanding achievements in innovation, performance and sustainability. The 21st edition of this annual event was recently held in the country where the “Overall Malaysia Car of the Year 2025” award was presented to the Zeekr 009 Ultra Luxury. 

In addition to the top honour in Malaysia’s automotive industry, the electric MPV also grabbed two more awards - “Best xEV of the Year” and “MPV xEV of the Year”. The Zeekr 7X AWD Performance won “SUV of the Year in the RM 200,000 – RM 500,000 category.

The Zeekr 009 Ultra Luxury (6-seater) stands out with its innovative design, refined luxury, sustained mobility, and cutting-edge safety and tech features. The Zeekr 7X, on the other hand, is the brand’s flagship model in the local market that impresses buyers with its premium technology, advanced safety features, and a distinct driving experience. This is one of the brand’s best-selling models in Malaysia, accounting for 70% of the total sales volume for 2025.

A significant milestone for Zeekr Malaysia 

Zeekr Malaysia’s big win at the MCOTY 2025 awards reinforces its growing recognition as a premium electric mobility leader in Malaysia. The automaker sold a total of 2,560 EVs last year and became the fourth best-selling EV brand in the country, after BYD, Proton, and Tesla.

In December 2025, the company celebrated its 2,000th vehicle delivery, reflecting strong brand acceptance among Malaysian consumers. 

A brief about the Malaysia Car of the Year (MCOTY) Awards

Regarded as one of the most credible automotive honours in Malaysia, MCOTY has been identifying the best new models for more than two decades. Started in 2002 as the Car of the Year Awards by a group of automotive journalists, it became an annual event and later in 2023, was re-branded Malaysia Car of the Year. 

Ensuring a transparent and comprehensive evaluation process is an independent judging panel comprising professional drivers, automotive journalists and industry professionals. The vehicles are evaluated across 8 different criteria - appearance, safety, ergonomics, value for money, practicality, performance, energy efficiency and warranty coverage. 

The Zeekr 009's big win at the event highlights the growing presence of electric vehicles among the winners, signalling the automotive industry's ongoing shift towards smart and sustainable mobility.
