2019 Toyota Camry: What to expect?

The specs of the all-new eighth-generation Toyota Camry are finally revealed for the Malaysian market on November 1. And after all the buzz regarding the car before its introduction, this new generation does seem to satisfy the prospect customers with its styling and the jam-packed features.

Remember the post that Toyota Malaysia made of its official Facebook page a few days back about a beast coming up in the form of the 2019 Camry? Well, the post did mention the date of the introduction and we all waited for it with bated breaths.

And now that it is here, with all the specification and featured revealed, let’s just find out everything about the car if you haven’t already.

The designing

The 2019 Toyota Camry is now built on the company’s TNGA (Toyota New Generation Architecture) platform which sees revised agility and stability. Also, this has brought increased dimensions where the length has increased by 35 mm, width has gone up by 15 mm while the height has gone down by 25 mm. The wheelbase sits at a comfortable increase of 50 mm, making the overhangs to be shorter.

The car rides on 18-inch wheels with 235-section tyres and is suspended over MacPherson Strut for the front and double wishbone for the rear. At the front, there are bi-LED projector headlamps that come integrated with LED turn signal indicators. Apart from that, other illumination units, that are, the tail lights, fog lamps and DRLs, get LED treatment on them.

There will be five body color options available for the 2019 Camry - Platinum White Pearl Mica, Red Mica, Silver Metallic, Burning Black, and Graphite Metallic.

Visually, it comes with the signature Toyota style front section with a rather timid grille but a monstrous bumper air dams with horizontal slats. There is a sharp character line running along the window skirts. The multi-spoke alloy wheels are brilliantly sculpted, enticing the look of the car further.

Inside the cabin

The 2019 Camry are from a completely new zone. The seats are done in fine leather upholstery. And when you talk about the seats, the features on this part don’t seem to end. Both the front seats are 8-way adjustable where the co-driver gets a collapsible headrest and shoulder switch. And for the driver, there is the memory function and power lumbar support.

The steering wheel is power adjustable and has the memory function too. There is an 8-inch touchscreen display for the infotainment system which has navigation and is routed to a set of nine speakers from JBL. There is another 10-inch head-up unit over the instrument console.

When you talk about the features inside the cabin, there are many. There is an electrochromic rear-view mirror along with air-conditioning vents for the rear row too. Dual-zone climate control is given for additional comfort along with a dashcam with video recording.

Power and performance

The Toyota Camry has been introduced in just one engine option, which is the 2.5-litre four-cylinder motor. This is the same engine taken from the outgoing model. The dual VVT-i unit manages to produce a maximum power of 184 PS along with a peak torque of 235 Nm, which comes at 4,100 RPM.

Despite using the same engine, it produces 4 PS more than what the previous model made. The produced power is sent down to the wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox unit.

Safety system provided

The Toyota Camry is extremely rich on the safety features, thanks to the Toyota Safety Sense system. There is a lane departure warning, steering assist, automatic high beam, pre-collision warning and dynamic radar control.

In addition to these, there are certain other features too, which sees the inclusion of seven airbags, rear-cross traffic alert and parking sensors for the front and rear.
