2020 Proton X70 CKD - 5 things to know

2020 Proton X70 CKD - 5 things to know

2020 Proton X70 CKD has been launched in Malaysia recently. Since the previous model of the car was immensely popular, the new one automatically got a lot of attention, and with that higher expectation from people. Well, the Malaysian-based car manufacturer has done everything it could to make the new X70 as good as possible. Here are 5 things about it that you should know.

1.Updated transmission

One of the biggest updates that you will find in the 2020 Proton X70 CKD specs sheet is the new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This gearbox replaces the old 6-speed automatic transmission that the previous model of the X70 used to come with. In fact, the new 7-speed DCT is the same transmission that many Volvo cars have.

What’s the big deal about it?

Ans. Well, apart from improving both performance and mileage, making gear changes quicker than ever, and enhancing your overall driving experience, the new 7-speed DCT is built to handle much more torque. That’s the reason why the 2020 X70 comes with an increased peak torque output - 300 Nm at 1750-4000 rpm. The 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine has always been capable of generating higher torque, it was the transmission that was the limitation.

2.Added convenient features

The 2020 X70 comes with a few added convenient features that would make your life easier and more comfortable. Following are some of them-

Power tailgate with foot sensor

As the name suggests, this allows you to open the boot of the car by waving your foot under the rear bumper. There are motion sensors placed to detect that. And you can close the boot by a press of a button. It isn’t the first time we are seeing this feature but having it in the list of features doesn’t hurt, right? Plus, you never know when it might come in handy.

Ventilated front seats

Another great convenient feature that has been included in the new X70 is seat ventilation. Both the front seats get this. So when on, this circulates cool air through the seats for improved ventilation and extra comfort. This would allow you to drive for longer duration without a break.

Remote control

By using Proton’s dedicated smartphone app, you can remotely monitor and control specific functions of your new X70. For example, you can open the boot, close the windows, sound horn or light up the lights. The app also shows you various necessary information about your car like fuel quantity, mileage, average speed, average fuel consumption, etc.

Other such features include an air purifier system, auto dual-zone AC, auto rain-sensing wipers, online navigation, Android Link for smartphone integration, etc.

3.Enhanced safety

When it comes to safety, we were already very impressed with the previous X70. Proton just made things even better in the new model, which comes with a perfect 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating. 6 airbags, that is standard across all the variants of the 2020 X70. following are some of the key safety features-

  • 360-degree camera with parking sensors
  • Tyre pressure monitoring system
  • Intelligent high beam control
  • Door opening warning system
  • Blindspot information system
  • Lane departure warning system
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Forward collision warning
