2022 Toyota Camry: What to expect

Toyota launched the facelifted Camry in Indonesia & Thailand late last year and now it's our turn to enjoy the sedan in its full glory. As per UMW Toyota Motor's latest teaser, the 2022 Camry will be launched locally on the 17th of February 2022.

What to expect from the upcoming 2022 Toyota Camry?

We only have one picture of the upcoming Camry, thanks to the Toyota Malaysia teaser. Not much can be told by this particular image since it only shows a small part of the sedan’s front profile. However, we can get information as to what all the cars could bring from the recently launched Thai-spec model. As you know we neighbors share more or less the same model specification with only a few features modified as per market demand.

So, let’s get to know the all-new 2022 Toyota Camry in detail starting from the variant options.

2022 Toyota Camry variants

The Thai-spec model is offered in four variant options - 2.5 Sport, 2.5 Premium, 2.5 HEV Premium, and 2.5 HEV Premium Luxury. As for Malaysia, Toyota would probably introduce the internal combustion engine first, followed by the HEV trims.

Remaining true to its mid-compact segment, the sedan measures 4,885 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, and 1,445 in height. The wheelbase and ground clearance reads 2,825 mm and 140 mm respectively, which is pretty good.

2022 Toyota Camry powertrain

Powering the 2022 Camry sedan is a new A25A-FKB mill with a displacement of 2,487 cc, 4-Cyl DOHC VVT-iE. This new Dynamic Force engine pumps out a maximum power of 209 PS at 6,600 rpm along with a peak torque of 205 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

As for the HEV variants, they use the same 2.5-litre unit that generates 178 PS and 221 Nm at 3,600-5,200 rpm. Paired to the mill is a 88 PS/202 Nm permanent magnet synchronous motor and a nickel-metal battery. The total engine and power motor output come down to 211 PS. The power here is transmitted to the wheels via an E-CVT unit.

2022 Toyota Camry braking & handling

Braking on the new Camry is taken off by disc brake/ ventilated disc unit at the front and disc brake at the rear. For suspension, the sedan gets Macpherson strut at the front and a double-wishbone at the back. We won’t mind if the setup remains the same here as well.

2022 Toyota Camry features

Toyota has loaded the new Thai-spec Camry sedan with ample standard features both inside and out. The exterior, for instance, features LED headlights with LED DRLs, LED taillights, LED front fog lamp, rear fog lamp, high-mount stop lamp, LED turn indicator, and power ORVM with auto-folding.

The cabin is revised too for the Thailand model and we won't mind seeing the same here. Part of the expected cabin kit is an automatic air-con system, 8-way power driver & passenger seat, auto light control system with follow-me-home, push start & stop entry, paddle shift, rain sensor wiper, wireless charger, auto brake hold, electric parking brake, head-up display, multi-information display, three driving modes (Sport, ECO, and Normal). Taking care of entertainment is an 8-inch touch screen display with eight speakers, T-Connect, 3 USB ports, Bluetooth.

The safety kit of the Thai-spec model is loaded too and we'd like the same as well. So the expected kit includes - ABS, EBD, BA, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill-start Assist, six SRS airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, Vehicle Sway Warning, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, Pre-Collision System, Automatic High Beam, Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Break, Emergency Stop Signal, Blind Spot Monitor, BackGuide Monitor, and Panoramic View Monitor.

The Thai-spec 2022 Camry seems great and if we get to share the exact same features (with a few alterations here and there), it would be great. Though there are just expectations with the real picture getting clear on Feb 17, 2022when UMW Toyota plans to launch the sedan.
