BYD Sealion 7 performance EV launching soon in Malaysia; bookings open
KUALA LUMPUR: After a short teaser campaign, Sime Darby Beyond Auto has opened the ordering books for the upcoming BYD EV, the Sealion 7. This will be the Chinese automaker’s fifth electric car in Malaysia, following the Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, and M6.

The BYD Sealion 7 is an electric performance SUV with premium styling that will square up against the Tesla Model Y and Xpeng G6. It is based on e-Platform 3.0 Evo, including a 12-in-1 electric drive system, cell-to-body (CTB) technology, and an 800-volt electrical architecture.
The upcoming BYD EV measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,930 mm.
The exterior boasts a distinctive "OCEAN X" front styling with a powerful X-structure and a low-slung bonnet. It is a part of the brand’s Ocean range of EVs, thus having plenty of Ocean-inspired elements such as floating LED headlights and ‘water-drop’ tail lights.
The interior is also Inspired by the dynamic flow and speed of sailboat racing, featuring flowing lines and ‘floating wing’ door handles. In terms of advanced tech features, the EV is likely to come packed with a 10.25-inch driver instrument display, a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment screen, a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, a 50-inch augmented-reality head-up display, heated and ventilated seats, and advanced driver-assistance systems.
In the global market, the Sealion 7 is offered in two powertrain options; the base-spec model is powered by an 82.56-kWh Blade LFP battery pack and a 313 PS/380 Nm single electric motor. It runs from zero to 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds.
The top-spec model, on the other hand, is equipped with a 91.3 kWh battery mated to two electric motors churning out a whopping power of 530 PS and a peak torque of 690 Nm. This configuration allows the EV to complete the century sprint in just 4.5 seconds.
The upcoming BYD EV is likely to offer a driving range of up to 567 km under NEDC testing standards.
