New BYD Sealion 7 launching in Malaysia on July 30

KUALA LUMPUR: Even though Proton has captured a major chunk of the Malaysian EV market, BYD is still holding its ground firmly with a range of exciting models that continue to attract buyers. One such model is the Sealion 7 that is ready for an upgrade.

BYD Malaysia has released a countdown teaser campaign for the new Sealion 7 on its social media handles and is ready to pull the wraps off on July 30, 2026, which is tomorrow.

While no details about the upgrades have been revealed yet, here’s what we speculate could be included.

New BYD Sealion 7: What to expect?

• 800V electrical architecture supporting faster charging: The upcoming EV is highly likely to get the 800V electrical architecture, replacing the 400V system, to support DC fast charging. Currently, the charging is limited to 150 kW; this may increase up to 230-240 kW.
• Bigger battery pack: The automaker may also swap the existing 82.5 kWh blade battery pack with the bigger 91.3 kWh LFP unit, offering a driving range of up to 500 km.

• Subtle cosmetic enhancements: The Chinese electric SUV is also expected to get subtle front and rear styling tweaks, adding to its visual appeal
• New exterior colours and wheels: The mid-cycle refresh may also add new options to the Sealion 7 colour palette for a fresh look.
• Enhanced features: As for features, BYD may bring on board an updated infotainment unit, enhanced driver-assistance systems, and additional comfort features. 
• Upgraded suspension: We can also expect an upgraded suspension setup for a more refined and sportier drive.
