Hyundai Motor Malaysia renews Selangor FC sponsorship for 2026/2027 season

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) is keeping its Selangor FC sponsorship going for another season, confirming an extension of the deal that made it the club's official mobility partner.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is Hyundai Motor Malaysia's role with Selangor FC for the new season?

Hyundai Motor Malaysia is continuing as Selangor FC's official mobility partner for the 2026/2027 season, an extension of the deal first signed the previous year.
  • What car is Hyundai Motor Malaysia providing to Selangor FC?

HMY is supplying one unit of the Hyundai Tucson Prestige, a 1.6 litre turbocharged SUV with 180 PS, 265 Nm, a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive, for the club's staff and officials.
  • It's not a new tie-up, more a continuation of what's already been running, just with HMY committing through the 2026/2027 Malaysia Super League campaign.

As part of the renewed deal, Selangor FC gets a Hyundai Tucson Prestige to use as its official team vehicle, mainly for moving staff and officials around for day-to-day club business rather than anything players will be seen driving. It's a practical addition more than a flashy one, covering the logistics side of running a football club both on match days and in between.

The extension comes off a solid year for the Red Giants, who finished third in the Malaysia Super League and were runners-up at the 2025-2026 ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup. HMY pointed directly to that run when explaining why it wanted to keep backing the club.

"The inaugural year of our partnership proved that performance and progress go hand-in-hand. Seeing Selangor FC's amazing achievement at the 2025-2026 ASEAN Club Championship Shopee CupTM finals has only strengthened our resolve to support their competitive ambitions," said Ms Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Malaysia. "As we step into this next phase, we are not just maintaining a corporate sponsorship – we are actively refining our mobility solutions to ensure the team, the management, and the fans experience a seamless journey toward future triumphs."

Selangor FC CEO Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon had similar sentiments about the renewal: "Today we are welcoming a new chapter in our journey. Alongside Hyundai Motor Malaysia, we believe this partnership will bring positive impact to both Selangor FC and Malaysian football as a whole. It's not just about chasing trophies but it's about cultivating a culture, discipline and continuous growth – which is a shared vision with Hyundai."

On the car itself, the Tucson Prestige sits at the top of Hyundai Malaysia's Tucson line-up, running the 1.6 litre turbocharged engine with 180 PS and 265 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.

Pricing for the variant starts from around RM186,888 on the road, putting it in the same bracket Malaysian buyers would typically be cross-shopping against the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, and Proton X70 in the C-segment SUV class.

Outside of the car and the on-pitch results, HMY and Selangor FC have also kept up a handful of community programmes over the past year.

That includes the Selangor FC Soccer School Carnival for grassroots football development, and the Cahaya Ramadan 2026 programme under HMY's Sentiasa di Sisi Anda banner, which reportedly supported around 150 underprivileged students from Bait Al-Hasanah in Klang with festive aid, school supplies, financial support and food assistance.

For now, the partnership is sticking with what's already worked: fleet support for the club, a few community touchpoints, and HMY using the football connection to keep its name in front of fans across Selangor and the rest of Malaysia heading into the new season.
