Perodua Aruz called for inspection; ASA in cheaper models
KUALA LUMPUR: Over 3000 units of Perodua latest SUV, the Aruz SUVs are called by the automaker for inspection. The issue involves units manufactured before 15th February 2019 and revolves around a potential airbag sensor issue.
The said Perodua safety campaign was triggered after a recent recall of Toyota Rush in the Philippines over airbag sensors. The sensors were said to be ‘too sensitive’ - as the curtain airbags were reported to deploy after the car hit a road bumper at a speed of 60 kmph.
Though no such incident is reported in Malaysia, Perodua seems to take no risk and is carrying out an inspection drive. It involves the replacement of the airbag part as a precaution - the entire process is free and would take just 30 minutes - says Perodua.
Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad, Perodua president, and CEO said, “We have better roads, but as a responsible company, we will carry an inspection process on all Aruz models made before 15th February, involving over 3,000 units.” He further said that the customers need not worry as there is no significant safety concern.
The company has already started issuing letters to the customers, informing them about the inspection drive and asking them to bring their car to the service centre for inspection.
Further, ensuring complete safety of its customers, Perodua plans to introduce its Advanced Safety Assist safety suite to a wider range of its cars. During a press conference, Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said that ASA will not remain limited to the brand’s advanced models but will now come with the cheaper and lower cars as well.
Briefing you on the ASA safety kit, it comprises of gears like -
- Pre-Collision Warning (PCW)
- Pre-Collision Braking (PCB)
- Front Departure Alert (FDA)
- Pedal Misoperation Control (PMC)
The automaker didn’t reveal when the ASA roll out would take place, but it is undoubtedly in the pipeline, and we can expect the application anytime soon. Besides, the automaker also revealed that it is in full-capacity to launch one all-new model and one facelift model every year. So, this year, we saw the launch of the all-new Aruz, and in the current lineup we are expecting Bezza to receive a facelift, probably fitted with ASA.
