Toyota Camry to have Turbocharged Unit

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota seems to be getting the new trend of the turbocharged engine. This new turbo engine is available in the Lexus NX SUV debuted last year, as well as in the new RX. The Lexus IS compact was lagging behind German rivals due to the unavailability of this engine. So, its latest variant IS 200t having above engine will be available in Malaysia in the third quarter of 2015. Like Lexus, Toyota will also gradually induce turbo engine into its core products. As per the Automotive News reports, the upcoming Toyota Camry will be on-road with 2.0 L turbocharged engine. The current 3.5 L V6 engine having output of 268 hp and 336 Nm is replaced by the four-cylinder.

The 2.0L produces 245hp/350 Nm output which possess a high acceleration in comparison to 3.5L engine produces high output. Turbo is the most preferred engine due to less CO2 emissions and it increases the fuel economy as it burns whole fuel by air-intake. One should not expect the all-turbo Camry range to arrive soon. The main four-cylinder engines will be available with direct-injection, the more efficient Atkinson cycle combustion and CVTs to enhance the efficiency. Toyota USA's group VP for production planning, Andrew Coetzee claimed, “ The power-train is still an area where we see ourselves as being able to squeeze out a significant amount of efficiency.”

Rival Honda is more advanced regarding turbo engine. Its forthcoming next-gen Civic will be its first model in the USA, which is equipped with a new 1.5 L turbocharged VTEC engine from the marque's Earth Dreams Technology umbrella. As per the Automotive reports, the Accord and CR-V will be featured with the turbo motor.
