2026 BYD Sealion 7 EV launched in Malaysia - 3 variants, price starts from RM 163,800

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian electric vehicle market is heating up, with brands aggressively introducing new and updated models at attractive prices to remain competitive. BYD is one of them, having just launched the upgraded Sealion 7 EV in the local market. 

BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD cars in  Malaysia, now offers the new Sealion 7 in three variants, including the newly added Dynamic variant positioned below the enhanced Premium and Performance models. While the new trim makes the EV more accessible than ever, the upgraded higher-spec versions offer a longer driving range and faster charging capabilities for buyers.

Notably, the company has also announced an early-bird package that offers a free wallbox charger or a special RM 4,000 rebate to the first 300 Dynamic variant buyers. The complimentary charger is also offered with Premium and Performance variants, along with overtrade bonuses.

2026 BYD Sealion 7: Drivetrain, range and charging

In terms of technical specifications, the upgrade introduces a new 800-volt electrical architecture, replacing the previous 400V system. As a result, the higher-spec Premium and Performance trims now support 230 kW DC charging, up from 150 kW, enabling the battery to charge from 10 to 80% in just 24 minutes, down from 32 minutes before. As expected, this duo also benefits from a bigger 91.3 kWh Blade LFP pack, which replaces the 82.5 kWh unit. 

The new base-spec Sealion 7 model, on the contrary, features a rear-wheel drive motor, a 71.8 kWh Blade LFP and supports 110 kW DC charging.

2026 BYD Sealion 7: Design and features

In terms of appearance, the EV retains the same exterior and interior design as the outgoing model. As for colour options, the Premium variant benefits from a new Ultraviolet exterior shade, which joins the existing Aurora White, Atlantis Grey, Shark Grey, and Cosmos  Black options. All variants come standard with a Black interior.

Coming to the feature kit, it also remains unchanged from the outgoing model. The key highlights include -
