We are talking about the Jaecoo J5 and the Omoda C9 PHEV.
Let’s take a brief look at the new models set to appear at the upcoming event.
Jaecoo J5
Globally introduced at the 2024 Omoda Jaecoo International User Summit in China last year, the Jaecoo J5 made its regional debut recently at the 2025 GIIAS show in Indonesia.
The Jaecoo J5 is a B-segment SUV that competes directly with rivals like the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V. It features a bold, boxy SUV silhouette, similar to the Jaecoo J7 and a refined level of luxury inside, blending high-end materials and technology. Key interior highlights include -
- 13.2-inch portrait-oriented infotainment system
- Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- 16.8 Million colour Gamut ambient lighting
- 1.45m2 integrated panoramic glass roof (touted as the best-in-class)
- Two-tone faux leather upholstery
At the core of the Jaecoo J5 lies a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, which is good for making 194 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. The SUV comes in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Seven driving modes are available, including mud, off-road, eco, normal, sport and snow.
However, in Indonesia, the automaker showcased the electric version of the J5, powered by a 211 PS/288 front electric motor and a 60.9 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 470 km.
Omoda C9 PHEV
As the name suggests, it is the plug-in hybrid version of the C9 D-segment SUV, launched in Malaysia late last year. The PHEV looks almost identical to its ICE-powered counterpart and is likely to get the same feature pack.
However, under the hood, it houses a Super Hybrid System (SHS) combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, three electric motors, a 34 kWh battery pack and a three-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The setup is tuned to deliver a combined output of 537 PS and a pure electric driving range of 169 km.
Well, these are the global-spec versions of the Jaecco J5 and Omoda C9 PHEV. As for the local specifications and launch timeline, we will have to wait a couple of weeks.
