Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming Omoda C7, highlighting its design and features.

Similar in size to the Jaecoo J7

The Omoda C7 is positioned between the Omoda 5 and the Omoda C9 in the brand’s lineup and is very similar in size to the Jaecoo J7. It measures 4,621 mm in length, 1,872 mm in width, and 1,673 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. For comparison, the J7 is 4,500 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,680 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,672 mm.

These dimensions put the C7 within the well-regarded C-segment SUV category, where it will compete with models like the Proton X70, Honda CR-V, and Toyota Corolla Cross.

To debut under the Omoda label

Unlike the Omoda 5, the recently previewed Omoda C7 is expected to launch under the standalone “Omoda” label, now managed by the newly formed Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia entity

Notably, the C7 is Omoda/Jaecoo’s first model developed exclusively for international markets, setting it apart from earlier models that were based on or adapted from Chery or Exeed vehicles.

    Bold and futuristic design

The upcoming Omoda SUV features a bold and futuristic design with cleaner lines and smoother curves that make it stand out effortlessly. Key highlights include -

Two engine options on the cards

The Omoda C7 is expected to come with two different engine options in Malaysia - a pure ICE and a plug-in hybrid.

The model previewed during the MAS event was a petrol-powered model, comprising a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is capable of generating 197 PS of maximum power and 290 Nm, of torque. The engine was paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch automatic and FWD or AWD system.

Another option is a Super Hybrid System similar to the one found in the Jaecoo J7 PHEV. It combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor. The former produces 156 PS and 220 Nm of toque while the latter is good for making 204 PS and 310 Nm. The total system output is rated at 360 PS and 530 Nm.

The electrified version also incorporates a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) and a BYD-sourced 18.3 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) that offers an all-electric range of 95 km.
