2020 Perodua Bezza safety features explained

Despite belonging to the A-segment, Perodua Bezza comes with some of the segment-first safety features, setting a benchmark in the entry-level compact sedan space. Malaysia’s affordable auto giant packs its vehicles with most advanced safety features, which gives them a cusp over rivals in their respective segment, and the new Bezza is no different.

Keeping safety at fore, it is armed with the following prominent safety features.

Vehicle Safety Control

The vehicle safety control is an automobile safety system that maintains contact between wheels and the road surface. This feature is usually found in B-segment vehicles, though Bezza is one of the few A-segment cars to benefit from it.

Hill-Start Assist

This is a driver assistance feature, meant to keep the car composed on slopes. It essentially prevents the vehicle from rolling back when the driver lifts pressure from brake and shifts to acceleration pedal. It basically holds the vehicle and maintains stability on winding roads, found in hilly terrains.

Traction Control

It is an active vehicle safety system designed to maintain traction of wheels in a vehicle on the road surface, while on the run. This feature triggers on its own when the engine torque and throttle input vary with the surface. To put it simply, it prevents the wheels from slipping in extreme weather conditions including heavy rains, snow, ice and slippery surfaces with low friction.

Anti-Lock-Braking System

The anti-lock-braking system or ABS is commonly found in modern cars. This is primarily an anti-skid feature used in four and two-wheeled vehicles. The main function of an ABS system is to prevent the wheels of a vehicle from locking up during hard braking, hence maintaining traction with the road surface. Moreover, it is an automated system, based on the principles of cadence braking and threshold braking, used by seasoned drivers before ABS systems came into existence.

Electronic Brakeforce Distribution

Mostly accompanied by ABS, the electronic brakeforce distribution is a braking technology used in automobiles that varies the amount of force applied on each wheel individually. This helps maximize stopping force without losing vehicular control. It distributes less braking pressure to the rear wheels to prevent lock-up, leading to skidding.

Other passive safety features include-

  • Keyless entry
  • Push start with remote boot release
  • Front passenger seat belt reminder
  • Reverse camera

Claimed to be one of the best sedans in the Malaysian market, it scored an impressive 5-star safety rating in the crash tests conducted by ASEAN NCAP. The facelifted version, which is an improvement over the previous model, benefits from Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0 safety suite. It comprises of several driver assistance systems including Pedestrian Detection, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Warning, Front Departure Alert and Misoperation Control. This system was first introduced in Myvi by Perodua and later in Axia. Aside from this new addition, ABS and EBD have been standardized, and vehicle stability control is available across 1.3L variants in the 2020 Perodua Bezza line-up.
