Perodua keeps the teasing on, some details of the SUV are out

KUALA LUMPUR: Codenamed as the D38L, the SUV which was first brought to the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018 has been teased for the second time. Even at the 2018 KLIMS, the SUV was teased only. One could only see the car from tiny holes. Adding to the pain, the vehicle was further covered with some kind of cloth as well.

Perodua SUV Teased 1

A few days ago, Perodua teased one and all with an image of the upcoming SUV. With the first image, we could tell that the SUV is going to be a 7-seater car and will resemble the Toyota Rush. However, only the structure of the SUV could be seen in the first teaser. The second teaser tells more about the safety features that will be offered on the SUV by Perodua. The social media caption on the teased image reads, “Your family’s safety comes first. What is coming will elevate their safety further”.

Perodua SUV Teased 2

The upcoming SUV from the Malaysian auto giant will feature 6 airbags, just like the smaller Myvi, along with Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) safety package. However, on the SUV, it will be ASA 2.0 which will now come equipped with additional pedestrian detection as well. Toyota Rush features PCS (Pre-Collision System) which works up to speeds of 80 kmph, also, it can detect pedestrians and brake autonomously up to the speeds of 50 kmph. The SUV by Perodua is also expected to bring the same set of features with its ASA 2.0.

The Toyota Rush houses the 2NR Dual VVT-i engine, same as the Myvi. D38L by Perodua is expected to carry the same motor and provide with a mileage of 15.6 kmpl. Going by the looks of the SUV from the teaser image, the 7-seater is both similar and different than the Toyota Rush. The headlamps and the bonnet are reminiscent to those of the Rush, however, there are double-layered DRLs on the D38L as opposed to single ones on the Rush. The visible differences include a 5-slat grille on the Perodua SUV whereas the grille on the Rush features only 4 slats. With the price of the Toyota Rush ranging from RM 93,000 to RM 98,000, we expect the Perodua D38L to be priced well below that mark.
