2019 Toyota Yaris now up for grab in Malaysia, price starts at RM 71k

KUALA LUMPUR: Finally, the news we all have been waiting for is here. Toyota Malaysia has added a brand new hatchback to its lineup, the 2019 Yaris. This car, in particular, created a lot of hype in the market and for that, we must appreciate Toyota’s marketing team. From releasing teaser images to displaying the car at dealerships and then finally showcasing it at the Malaysia Autoshow 2019, the brand has done it all right. Plus, April seems to be a rather promising month for the country’s auto industry, as many cars have landed lately, like 2019 Proton Iriz, new Persona to name a few.

The 2019 Yaris was launched in the country at a private event that also saw the presence of its brand ambassador, Janna Nick. The Yaris as we know is based on Toyota’s popular car, the Vios and in a lot of areas like the engine and design tallies the B-segment sedan.

The all-new Yaris is available in three trim options - J, E, and G. They all are powered by the same 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i mill (also found in Vios specs sheet) that churns out a maximum power of 107 PS along with a peak torque of 140 Nm at 4,200 rpm. This 2NR-FE DOHC unit is coupled to a CVT automatic gearbox with seven vital ratios called Sport Sequential Mode by Toyota.

The Yaris is a stylish looking car, and measures 4145 mm in length, 1730 mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2550 mm. The dimensions are same as that of the Vios expect for the length that’s 280 mm shorter. Again, borrowing specs from its sedan sibling, the Yaris suspension department gets MacPherson struts at the front and torsion beam at the rear. The braking system gets ventilated discs at the front and drums at the back. The 1.5 G trim of the Vios gets disc brakes at the rear.

All three Toyota Yaris variants are packed with adequate safety features, both active and passive. And that is the reason why the car scored a 5-star safety rating by ASEAN NCAP (for adult and child occupant safety). Included in its standard safety bag are - seven airbags, hill start assist, electronic stability and traction control, ABS with EBD and BA, and auto door locks. Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert is restricted to E and G trims.

The 2019 Yaris price goes from RM 70,888 to RM 83,888, and the car is available in five color options - Super White, Attitude Black, Silver Metallic, Red Mica Metallic, and the Citrus Mica Metallic.
