2020 Perodua Bezza - Hits & misses

2020 Perodua Bezza was launched in Malaysia last month amongst much fanfare. It has already been quite a popular car and with this new update, Perodua ensured that the scene continues. Now, it has been just over a month since the Bezza’s launch and we had enough time to get to know the car more and realise the areas where it excels and where things could have been better. We will be sharing all of that in this ‘Hits & Misses’ story.

However, before we begin, we would like to get done with the pricing and all.

And if you are wondering about the 2020 Perodua Bezza specs, it comes with two engine options - 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre that produces 67 PS and 94 PS, respectively. For full engine details and specifications, you can refer to the table below.

2020 Perodua Bezza Hits

Improved styling: Perodua has made certain changes in the styling of the new Bezza which make it a better-looking car than its predecessor. Exterior features like new dual-tone 15-inch alloy wheels, side skirts, chrome bits here and there, etc. are welcoming changes.

Interior: Perodua has also worked upon the interior of the 2020 Bezza. The overall cabin space might not be different by a huge margin but the rear passenger comfort has been considerably enhanced. The fit-and-finish is quite decent, too. Also, the Smart Link system is a great feature to have and can be accessed by both Android and iOS users.

Safety: Perodua’s latest sedan gets its latest safety feature - the Advanced Safety Assist 2.0 or ASA 2.0. It provides four primary functions like - Pre-Collision Braking up to 80 km/h, Pre-Collision Warning up to 100 km/h, Front Departure Alert, Pedestrian Detection up to 50 km/h, and Pedal Misoperation Control - and makes the 2020 Bezza safer than ever.

Engine: Both the 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre engines of the Bezza are EEV (Energy Efficient Vehicle) engines and thus are tuned to churn out the best possible combination of fuel efficiency and performance. Perodua claims that its 1.0-litre engine is capable of returning a mileage of 22.8 km/l with the 5-speed MT and 21.3 km/l with the 4-speed AT whereas its more powerful 1.3-litre engine can attain the highest fuel efficiency figure of 22 km/l with the AT.

2020 Perodua Bezza Misses

Design: Yes, the new Bezza looks better than its previous model thanks to the new elements that Perodua has added, however, there are a couple of factors that it didn’t address. For example, Bezza has a disproportionate design. Its rear end looks very bulky and wide whereas the side profile isn’t entirely symmetrical. Perodua also skipped adding LED DRLs in the new model.

Interior features: Since the new Bezza doesn’t come with an adjustable steering wheel, finding the right or correct driving position could be a problem for some people. Perodua also didn’t add a built-in toll reader which is one of the most used convenient features in Malaysia. Regarding rear passenger comfort, the new Bezza also misses out on rear AC vents. We also found the user interface of the touchscreen to be a bit laggy and unresponsive.

Safety: While we do applaud Perodua equipping the Bezza with its latest Advanced Safety Assist 2.0, the fact that even the range-topping variant of the car comes with just dual front airbags isn’t swallowable.

Conclusion

The new 2020 Perodua Bezza isn’t a perfect car and that’s alright because we don’t have a perfect car. However, even with its flaws, it is still quite a good deal. Of course, we would have liked if Perodua didn’t give us a chance to point out those flaws in the first place but they aren’t really a deal-breaker. And we hope that Perodua would address them in the Bezza’s next update.
