BMW X7 to make local debut in May 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Malaysia has confirmed that the new X7 will arrive in May 2019. The flagship SUV was first unveiled in October last year, and its production commenced in December at the manufacturer’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, USA.

Interestingly, the new G07 X7 is the new high-end model in the BMW X range. The earlier top model in the X lineup was the X5, which is currently in its fourth generation.

Despite being a big SUV, the X7 offers the 7 Series luxury and is based on a modified X5 platform. Once on the road, it will give fierce competition to the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLS, Lexus LX, and Range Rover. It is expected that China and North America will be the biggest markets for the vehicle.

Speaking of the powertrain, the all-new X7 will be available in two petrol and two diesel variants. The base petrol model of the car is equipped with a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine which can make a maximum power of 340 PS and a peak torque of 420 Nm. The new X7 xDrive40i can hit the 100 kmph mark in just 6.1 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 245 kmph.

Next is the X7 xDrive50i with 4.4-litre turbocharged V8, which can produce 462 PS of power along with 650 Nm of peak torque. It takes 0.7 seconds lesser time than the base model to speed up from zero to 100 kmph, and it offers a top speed of 250 kmph.

As mentioned there are two diesel variants as well. The smaller among the two is the X7 xDrive30d. It is equipped with 3.0-litre turbodiesel in-line six-cylinder oil burner which churns out 265 PS of power and 620 Nm of peak torque. Another one is the M Performance model, X7 M50d. It has a 3.0-litre in-line six cylinder engine which can make 400 PS of power with 760 Nm. The power is sent to all the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission for all the variants.
