Malaysia Autoshow 2019: Toyota Yaris revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: It’s here. Want us to pinch you? We wish we could. The Toyota Yaris is finally here. If you want to learn the tips and tricks of marketing, have a word with the folks at Toyota Malaysia. They made sure to build every bit of excitement before launching their newest product in Malaysia which is to happen next month. After all the teasers, rumours, videos advertisements, and whatnot, the Yaris has landed on the Malaysian shores.

As we already shared with you, the Toyota Yaris is nothing but a hatchback version of the ever so popular sedan Vios. While the Yaris is without a doubt smaller than the Vios, the hatch looks a lot more muscular and sporty than the bigger sibling. The sporty bumper, stylish upswept headlamps, and LED DRLs all contribute to the alluring looks of the Yaris. A pair of slightly revised two-piece combination taillights and a roof-mounted rear spoiler adds that glory at the rear end.

 

The interior on the Yaris has been carried over from the Vios. The cabin features a 4.2-inch Optitron instrument cluster, electrochromic rearview mirror, automatic air conditioning, DVD-AVX head unit with USB mirroring that allows the buyers to cast smartphone’s screen on the infotainment display, 360-degree view camera, and much more. Don’t worry about the space inside as it is enough to accommodate five people easily.

Talking of the mechanicals of the Yaris, the hatchback is powered by a 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i motor. We have already seen this highly capable engine in the Vios. The power figures are rated at 107 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 140 Nm. A CVT unit takes care of delivering the power to the front wheels. The Vios is one safe car and the fact is further supported by a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating. Similar is the case with the Yaris too as the hatchback features identical safety features like Seven airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, blind spot monitoring, and hill start assist control among others.

A total of five color options are offered, namely Citrus Mica Metallic, Red Mica Metallic, Attitude Black, Silver Metallic, and Super White II. The Toyota Yaris price ranges from RM 71,888 to RM 84,888. So, the Yaris is here, when are you heading to your nearest Toyota dealership to get yourself a new four-wheel companion?
