Toyota Malaysia displays strong sales performance; holds on to best-selling non-national brand tag

KUALA LUMPUR: The official distributor of Toyota & Lexus cars in Malaysia, UMW Toyota Motors (UMWT) has announced the company’s sales figure for October 2022. Thus, revealing the automaker’s stronghold in the local market which makes it the best-selling non-national auto brand in the country.

In October 2022, UMW Toyota sold a total of 9,281 cars out of which 9,175 units belonged to Toyota and 106 to Lexus. Compared to last month's figure, these figures represent a 0.5% growth and a 9% hike over the same period last year. The high sales figures for the month are however attributed to the recently launched all-new Veloz. The company claims to have received over 7000 bookings even before the car’s arrival.

As for the brand’s year-to-date sales figure, UMW Toyota sold 80,153 units from January to October 2022; 79,308 units belonged to Toyota, and the rest to Lexus. Compared to the same period last year, the automaker experienced 47% growth.

“While economic conditions remain challenging, the car market has also been steadily recovering its strength in the course of the year. Our production is still partly affected but rest assured that we are doing our best to deliver new vehicles as quickly as possible,” said UMWT President, Ravindran K.

Overall, 2022 has proved itself to be a profitable year for the brand with Toyota experiencing an upward trend from the very beginning. Adding to its achievements, in the pickup truck segment, the automaker remained a market leader.

Toyota is offering special year-end promotions for its selected models like Toyota Yaris and Vios. Here the customer can benefit from an additional RM 4,000 in savings, bringing the monthly installments down to RM 498 for Yaris and RM 598 for Vios.
