Weekly wrap-up: 2026 Proton S70, New Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport launched, 6 new Honda models, Hyundai N models confirmed, and more
The past week continued the busy momentum in the Malaysian automotive arena with one event following another. Proton launched the all-new S70, while UMW Toyota introduced the all-new Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport facelift. Additionally, Honda, Hyundai, and Jetour detailed their launch and expansion plans for 2026, building interest and excitement in many ways. In the meantime, the global market also enjoyed some noteworthy reveals and updates about upcoming models.

Malaysia automotive market: Key updates
All-new 2026 Proton S70 launched in Malaysia
Introduced in 2023, the Proton S70 has received its first round of upgrades, offering more responsive performance, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced safety technologies. With the same four-variant lineup (Executive, Premium, Flagship and Flagship X), the sporty sedan is priced from RM 73,800 to RM 94,800. It gets a more powerful engine that produces a maximum power of 181 PS and a peak torque of 290 Nm, representing a considerable jump of 31 PS and 64 Nm over the previous setup. Also new for 2026 are refreshed wheels, a new sport body kit, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The launch promo offers an exclusive launch rebate of RM 5,000 (T&C apply).
2026 Toyota Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport launched in Malaysia
UMW Toyota has launched the all-new Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport in the Malaysian market, with no change in pricing compared to the outgoing model. New for 2026 are a refreshed front grille, sharper GR-inspired exterior detailing and a more distinctive dual-tone look with a black roof package. Inside, the hybrid SUV benefits from a monotone black cabin with stronger GR Sport accents. Priced at RM 148,800, the updated Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport retains the same 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor, generating a total system output of 122 hp.
Honda Malaysia to introduce 6 new models in 2026
Honda Malaysia has also detailed its game plan for 2026. The Japanese brand is ready to bring 6 new models to the local market this year, chasing a baseline target of 60,000 units. While the company has not confirmed the full model list yet, the mention of the e:HEV system and the S+ Shift tech in the presentation confirms the inclusion of the Prelude. The two-door coupe was also teased in Honda Malaysia’s 25th anniversary celebration video last year. The Honda StepWGN e:HEV Spada and the updated WR-V are also likely to be on the cards.
Hyundai Malaysia to launch Ioniq N models and new MPV in 2026
After taking full control in 2025, Hyundai Motor Malaysia is ready to make a splash this year. The brand has announced its ambitious plans for 2026, including upcoming models, enhanced aftersales services under myHyundaiCare, and network expansion to deliver a stronger end-to-end ownership experience. The company will bring back its Hyundai N brand in Malaysia this year, comprising - Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 N performance EVs in the second quarter, followed by the launch of a new B-segment MPV (Hyundai Stargazer) in the fourth quarter. The company will also roll out the Tucson and Santa Fe CKD versions this year.
Jetour Malaysia reveals upcoming launches and network expansion plans
Chery-owned Jetour is all set to spread its wings in the Malaysian market. The company revealed its product, network expansion, infrastructure, and brand positioning plans this week.
With the rollout of a new brand identity, Jetour Malaysia will be launching multiple new models across the SUV spectrum, including the T-Series range. It will establish a new Malaysia headquarters and flagship service centre and develop a Regional Technical Training Centre and Media and Content Centre in H1 2026. It plans to expand its network from 31 to 50 outlets by the end of 2026.
Early-bird promo announced for the upcoming Jaecoo J5 and C9 PHEV
OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has announced exciting early-bird promos for its upcoming models, the J5 and C9 PHEV, ahead of their imminent launches later this year.
- The Jaecoo J5 is estimated to be priced at RM 110,000; the early bird rewards include - 1st-year Insurance (RM 3,000) + Accessories Trio (RM 2,000) + CNY “Angpow” Rebate (RM 3,888).
- The Omoda C9 PHEV is estimated to be priced at RM 220,000; the early bird rewards include - CNY “Angpow” Rebate (RM 3,888) + Complimentary V2L Connector Cable (RM 730).
Stellantis Malaysia begins exporting Peugeot 408 to Taiwan
Stellantis has started producing the new Peugeot 408 at the Stellantis Gurun plant in Malaysia, marking an important step in its regional manufacturing operations. The Made-in-Malaysia SUV is now exported to Taiwan, making it the third market to receive this award-winning fastback, after Thailand in 2024 and Cambodia in 2025. Stellantis aims to transform the Gurun plant into a regional manufacturing hub in the long-term, set to achieve a target of exporting 280,000 vehicles to 20 countries across the Asia-Pacific region by 2028. The facility will also look after the local assembly of EVs, starting with the Leapmotor C10 EV.
GWM WEY G9 bags 800 bookings in first week of launch
Great Wall Motors Malaysia has secured over 800 bookings of the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV within its first week of launch. This achievement reflects the MPV’s strong demand and consumers’ growing confidence in intelligent hybrid mobility. Priced at RM 269,800, the WEY G9 is designed for both families and professionals and promises a great combination of hybrid performance, efficiency, safety and top-notch comfort. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain comprises a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and dual electric motors, delivering a total system output of 442 PS and 642 Nm and a combined range of over 1,000 km.
New BMW 4S dealership opens in Kedah
BMW Group Malaysia has opened a new 4S Retail.NEXT outlet in Kedah, operated by Lee Motors. The new dealership offers Sales, Service, Spare Parts, Authorised Body & Paint, and Financial Services for BMW and MINI vehicles. It is designed in line with the automaker’s latest Retail.NEXT concept and incorporates a 50,000 sq ft space, comprising a sales & service lounge, handover lounge, hospitality area, and service reception. The new Lee Motors Retail.NEXT outlet is located at 218, Jalan Gangsa, Kawasan Perusahaan Mergong II, 05150, Alor Setar, Kedah.
Global automotive market: Key international launches and updates
New Denza D9 facelift leaked in China
The Denza D9 is due for its first update in the Chinese market in 2026. While the official details are yet to surface, the images and key details about the upcoming MPV have been leaked, courtesy of China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. For the 2026 model year, the D9 benefits from subtle exterior design changes and minor interior revisions for a fresh and modern vibe. However, the biggest change lies under the skin where the MPV gets new FWD and AWD setups, delivering a maximum power of 462 PS and 557 PS, respectively; it represents a significant jump of 149 PS and 190 PS over the outgoing versions.
BYD Atto 3 Evo EV debuts in Europe
BYD has pulled the wraps off a new version of the Atto 3 in the European market, dubbed as the Atto 3 Evo. Touted as the most advanced and powerful iteration of the EV to date, the Evo features a four-wheel drive setup, 800V high-voltage system, and faster charging capabilities. The EV can complete the century sprint in 3.9 seconds and charge from 10 to 80% in 25 minutes. Equipped with a bigger 74.88 kWh battery pack, the BYD Atto 3 Evo will cruise up to 510 km on a single charge.
Three-row Toyota Highlander EV set to launch in the US
Toyota is set to launch the fully-electric version of the Highlander in the United States in late 2026. Said to be the brand’s first three-row BEV for the US, the model will be offered with 77.0kWh and 95.8kWh battery options, with a maximum driving range of up to 515 km. The powertrain choices will include FWD or AWD, with the latter generating up to 343 hp and 438 Nm.
GWM Ora 5 launching in Thailand next month
Great Wall Motors is set to expand its lineup in Thailand, with the launch of the Ora 5 EV. Originally introduced in September last year, the Ora 5 is a C-segment SUV that slots above the Ora 3 in the automaker’s global lineup. While Thai specifications are yet to be confirmed, the EV comes powered by a single front-motor drivetrain in China, dishing out a maximum power of 204 PS and 260 Nm. As for battery options, there are two options - 45.3 kWh and 58.3 kWh, promising a driving range of 480 km and 580 km, respectively.
Ferrari’s first EV name and interior revealed
Ferrari has unveiled the official name of its first-ever EV, set to make its debut in May 2026. The EV is known as the ‘Luce,’ which means Light in Italian. The automaker also revealed the EV’s retro-themed interior, designed in collaboration with LoveFrom, led by former Apple design chief Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson. The interior heavily relies on physical controls and tactical buttons, unlike modern EVs. Key highlights include - premium aluminium, leather, and glass touches, a three-spoke steering wheel, and a central rotatable display.
