Top 10 EV launches of 2025 in Malaysia: A look back

The electric vehicle market in Malaysia is gaining momentum, with sales jumping to 36,690 units (representing 91 % year-on-year growth) in the first eleven months of 2025. This growth has been driven by the arrival of new and exciting EVs and accelerated purchases ahead of CBU EV tax incentives expiring by the end of the year.

Here are the top 10 EV launches of 2025 - 

Perodua QV-E

The most important EV launch of the year was none other than the Perodua QV-E, touted as Malaysia’s first homegrown electric vehicle. Designed and developed in-house by Perodua, the QV-E is a part of P2's agenda to develop a sustainable EV ecosystem in the country. 

Packed with a wide range of advanced systems, the Perodua QV-E is offered with a battery leasing model called 'Battery as a Service’, where the battery is leased separately from the car’s body, under a 9-year contract.

Proton e.MAS 5

Capitalising on the popularity of the e.MAS 7, Proton expanded its electric lineup with the launch of e.MAS 5 in October this year. Touted as Malaysia's most affordable EV, the Proton e.MAS 5 is a rebadged Geely model, designed and tuned for Malaysia, meeting stricter safety targets and adapted for right-hand drive. It boasts a sleek design, an up-to-date digital cabin, and a practical driving range, making it a strong contender in its segment.

Two variants - Prime and Premium, priced at RM 59,800 and RM 72,800, respectively

Prime - Single RWD motor generating 79 PS and 130 Nm

Honda e:N1

Honda entered Malaysia's electric vehicle market in May with the launch of the e:N1 electric SUV. Built on Honda’s e:N Architecture F platform, the compact Japanese EV retains the basic silhouette of the HR-V while offering dedicated EV performance and forward-thinking features, targeting buyers seeking a refined, well-engineered, and reliable EV.

BYD Seal 6

BYD expanded its growing lineup in Malaysia with the launch of the Seal 6 in September, causing a stir in the local electric vehicle industry. The Seal 6 is touted as the most affordable and largest C-segment EV sedan in the country. Built on the automaker’s e-Platform 3.0 architecture, the EV focuses on affordability, comfort, and practicality.

Zeekr 7X

Zeekr 7X made its way to local roads in August this year as the brand’s third electric car in Malaysia. It is a mid-sized electric SUV based on Geely’s PMA2+ platform, featuring an 800-volt electrical architecture. The Zeekr 7X boasts a sleek and futuristic design with a 93-inch Integrated Smart Light front curtain, a well-equipped cabin and Level 2.5 ADAS features, set to redefine the luxury electric SUV segment.

BYD Atto 2

BYD also launched a compact and affordable electric SUV in Malaysia this year, called the Atto 2, which attracted attention from EV enthusiasts. Designed for the youth and the young-at-heart, the Atto 2 represents a new era of driving with its stylish design, trend-setting lifestyle features and competitive pricing. It is positioned between the Dolphin and Atto 3 in the brand’s local lineup.

iCAUR 03

The iCAUR 03 made its way to Malaysia in September as the country’s first fully electric off-road SUV. It is a C-segment SUV combining rugged design, safety-focused engineering, and practical everyday usability, setting a new benchmark in the local EV arena. It is built on an aluminium monocoque chassis and debuts the brand’s iCARE safety system. iCAUR Malaysia also offers the special Black Phantom Edition of the SUV.

iCAUR 03’s price and specifications

Two variants - 2WD and iWD, priced at RM 119,800 and RM 129,800, respectively

MG S5

MG Motor Malaysia added some serious competition to the entry-level electric vehicle market with the launch of the S5 in May this year. The S5 is a B-segment electric SUV that features a bold and modern exterior, a hi-tech cabin, and rear-wheel drive dynamics, offering a unique value proposition to buyers who want more than just affordability.
